Former Test captain Wasim Bari was Wednesday retained as chairman of
the newly-formed senior national selection committee while another exskipper, ZaheerAbbas, was named to head the junior selection
committee.
However, the chairpersons of both the committees will work in an
honorary capacity while their members will be the paid selectors.
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) media manager Khalid Butt disclosed
to newsmen that former Test cricketers Mohsin Khan, Shafiq Ahmed and
Aqib Javed are the new members of the senior selection committee.
Zaheer will be assisted by Rashid Khan, Farrukh Zaman and Sultan Rana.
To make the task of selection of players more comprehensive, a new
selection policy has been evolved. The task of the respective
selection committees will include the following things:
Current Test players will be evaluated and their usefulnessand
prospects for inclusion in the future national teams will be assessed.
The under-15, under-17 and under-19 cricketers will be spotted in all
parts of the country for their induction in the PCB academies.
The skill, talent and potential of cricketers playing in domestic
cricket will be assessed.
In accordance with the needs of international matches and Tests within
the country and abroad, the national teams will be chosen.
For discharging the above-mentioned functions in a befitting manner,
the selectors will witness domestic matches at different venues.
They will submit their reports about those matches, along with their
recommendations, to the PCB chairman.
The selection committees will discuss the performances of individual
players with the PCB chairman and the respective manager and coach and
also make strategies for selection of the teams.
They will submit the teams for particular Tests and international
matches to the PCB chairman for his final approval.
