†AUSTRALIA v ZIMBABWE

At Madras, October 13. Australia won by 96 runs. Toss: Zimbabwe. Border, dropped by Jarvis off a straightforward return catch when he had scored 1, put on 113 with Marsh after Australia had shown signs of nerves at 20 for two. Working the ball solidly off his legs, he faced 88 balls in an innings of 67 which took him past 4,000 runs in one-day matches for Australia. Zimbabwe broke back, dismissing both batsmen in quick succession, only for Waugh to step up the rate with 45 from 40 balls. And when Zimbabwe batted, he gave away just 7 runs in his six overs. McDermott looked sharp and accurate, while the inclusion of May, an off-spinner, hinted at a better balance.

Man of the Match: S. R. Waugh.
