Sixth One-day International

†INDIA v AUSTRALIA 1986-87

At Rajkot, October 7. Australia won by seven wickets after putting India in on a pitch that gave nothing to the bowlers. Lamba strengthened the good impression he had made in the series with his first hundred in a one-day international, off 188 balls with two sixes and eight fours, and Kapil Dev, who had extracted a concession from the selectors and was playing only as a batsman, struck what was possibly the quickest half-century in a one-day international. His first 50 runs came off 26 balls, including an onslaught on McDermott which yielded 24 in an over, and in all he hit two sixes and five fours. Jones set up the chase with a cultured 55 against some inexperienced bowling before Border saw his side home with an unbeaten 91 off 88 balls.

Man of the Match: A. R. Border. Man of the Series: R. Lamba.
