Second One-day International

†INDIA v PAKISTAN 1986-87

At Calcutta, February 18. Pakistan won by two wickets. A splendid 72 off 35 balls by Salim Malik brought Pakistan a remarkable victory before a crowd of 90,000-plus at the first one-day international at Eden Gardens. The match was seemingly in India's grasp after Srikkanth's 123 (one six, fourteen fours) and partnership of 145 for the fourth wicket with Azharuddin. Younis Ahmed, playing in his first one-day international in his 40th year, shared a century opening stand with Ramiz Raja, but in forcing the pace Pakistan slumped to 161 for five. Coming in when 78 runs were needed at more than 10 an over, Malik produced some amazing shots and hit a six and eleven fours as he turned the tables. Maninder, who played despite an injury, went for 70 runs in his ten overs.

Man of the Match: Salim Malik.
