AUSTRALIA v ZIMBABWE

At Hobart, March 14. Australia won by 128 runs. Toss: Zimbabwe. A straightforward win over point-less Zimbabwe was a relief for the demoralised Australians and a showcase for the Waugh twins. It even gave Australia faint hopes of reaching the last four on run-rate. A shower after 15 overs, with Australia 72 for one, reduced the match to 46 overs a side. By the time Steve Waugh joined his brother Mark, Australia had reached 144 from 34 overs, but in 69 balls they added 113 (50 runs coming from a mere 17 deliveries). Though Steve went for 55, Mark remained undefeated on 66 from 39 balls. Later, Steve collected two top-order wickets and Mark two catches, propelling Zimbabwe from 47 for no wicket to 97 for seven.

Man of the Match: S. R. Waugh. Attendance: 7,411.
