For the second year running, the bulk of the Editor's Notes were taken up by the proposals for a triangular Test series between England, Australia and South Africa, but institutional resistance meant that in the end an invitation to the Australians only was sent for 1909, and even then only after some ridiculous prevaricating by the MCC. "I have gone at somewhat undue length into a subject which is more or less out of date," he concluded, rather unhelpfully ... before continuing at length on the same topic. And in a virtual carbon copy of his 1907 Notes, Sydney Pardon then wrote of his opposition to a two-tier Championship.
