Belinda Clark, arguably Australia's greatest ever female cricketer, has been re-appointed as captain of the Victorian Women's cricket side, the `Spirit' for season 2003/2004.
Also the current Australian captain, Clark is looking forward to the opportunity of defending the Women's National Cricket League (WNCL) title after Victoria's defeat of the previously dominant New South Wales outfit.
"Captaining any team is a big honour and to have the opportunity to lead the Victorian Spirit is certainly that," Clark said.
"The girls are totally committed to improving as individuals and as a collective group, and, when you are working in that environment you are always a chance to taste success," she added.
Cricket Victoria Women's Operations Manager, Claudia Fatone said Clark was the obvious choice to captain the Spirit for the third consecutive year since crossing from New South Wales.
"Belinda has played at National and International level for the past 12 years and has the fantastic ability to share her knowledge with fellow squad members. She was the outstanding choice to lead the team in their quest for back to back WNCL titles," Fatone said.
The Victorian Spirit commences their 2003/04 season against Queensland Fire on November 22/23 at Allan Border Field. The Spirit's two home rounds are scheduled for December, when they take on the Western Fury at Princes Park, Carlton (December 6/7), followed by the 2002/03 Finals rematch against the NSW Breakers at Butler Oval, Frankston (December 20/21).
