Trevor Barsby, the former Queensland opening batsman, was today appointed as the state's new talent development manager.
Barsby represented Queensland for 12 seasons, and played 111 first-class matches, averaging close to 36, with 15 centuries. He played an instrumental role in two Sheffield Shield finals, scoring 151 in 1994-95, and 111 in 1996-97 - Queensland won both finals. Graham Dixon, Queensland Cricket's chief executive officer, believed it was this experience that would help nurture future Queensland players.
"Trevor played an important role as a player for Queensland and that knowledge will now be used to help prepare the next generation of Bulls players," Dixon said. "He has also been heavily involved in club cricket at senior and junior level which will also benefit Queensland Cricket with our continued focus on improving the grassroots of our game."
Barsby replaced Darren Holder, who was hired by the West Indian cricket board as the coaching manager. He was positive about his new role, which includes overseeing the Emerging Players program, the elite U-17 and U-19 teams, and working with the Queensland Academy of Sport as well as the Queensland coaching staff.
"I've had a few years away now," Barsby said, "but I'm ultra-keen to get involved in the future of the sport as well as help out where I can with further developing the talent Queensland already has."
