Mushfiqur Rahim's tenure as Bangladesh captain has been extended until the 2015 World Cup in Australia and New Zealand. The unanimous decision was taken at the second meeting of the BCB's board of directors in Dhaka.
The extension is a vote of confidence for Mushfiqur, who led Bangladesh to a 3-0 victory in the home ODI series against New Zealand in October and November, after drawing the Tests 0-0.
"I feel honoured by the faith the board has shown in my ability to lead the Bangladesh team. This is also a fantastic opportunity for me to plan for the future with Shane (Bangladesh coach Shane Jurgensen), the players and the rest of the management," Mushfiqur said. "We have started to develop a better degree of consistency in recent times and I will try my heart and soul to maintain that positive vibe. The path ahead is a challenging one but Insha-Allah we will reach our desired goals across all formats of the game."
In May this year, Mushfiqur had resigned the captaincy after Bangladesh lost an ODI series in Zimbabwe, but later said that the decision to quit was a mistake. The BCB decided to reappoint him in July but for a term that ended on December 31, 2013. A day later, Mushfiqur strongly criticised the BCB for appointing him as a short-term captain, saying it would make it difficult for him to set goals and would affect future captains too. This latest extension of his tenure is for more than a year.
Mushfiqur has been Bangladesh's captain since 2011 and has led them in 12 Tests, 24 ODIs and 15 Twenty20 internationals. Under him, Bangladesh have won one Test, 11 ODIs and six T20s.
