January 30, 2017. Kane Williamson hits the target. The crowd goes wild. And New Zealand beat Australia.

April 11, 2017. He hits the target not once, not twice, but thrice in succession. The crowd goes bonkers. He takes a lap of honour. And New Zealand beat Australia again. In darts.

The stakes were not as high as they had been at that Chappell-Hadlee Trophy match two months ago but the outcome was still reasonably spectacular as Williamson pulled in a 180, the highest possible score in a dart game by hitting the incredibly narrow triple 20 zone on all his tries.

It was his opponent David Warner who began the cheering. "One-eighty," he screamed, leaping up in the air with both arms aloft. "There we have it, Sunrisers fans, our first 180 comes off probably 10,656 attempts. Two years of hard work has finally played off. It's like a hole in one in golf"

After recording the moment for posterity, Williamson sat down for his post-match interview. "That's what the IPL is all about eh," he said. "Big moment. Something I'll never forget. This and.. and, last year's IPL victory will be right up there."

CRICFAN0564020687. I completely agree. Among all his contemporaries, comprising Joe Root, Steve Smith and Virat Kohli, Kane Williamson is probably most endowed with an attribute called humility. I'm not saying that the others aren't humble off the field. But Kane Williamson has a certain charisma about him, both on and off the field and I just love the way he carries himself. He always conducts himself with a sense of decorum. One of the hallmarks of a true champion and a great leader is simplicity and King Kane has that in abundance. This is one factor that always endears him to his fans, apart from his classy and elegant strokes, which I'd pay good money to watch.

Catastrophic Expectations I agree with you. C'mon Sunrisers Hyderabad. You can't have a player of the quality of Kane Williamson sitting in the dugout. The IPL is all about seeing talent express itself. Please play King Kane. He has a lot of fans in India who simply love watching him bat, for his elegant, classy and graceful strokeplay. Hope The Black Caps captain gets a game for Sunrisers Hyderabad soon.

I think the reaction was genuine - either that or he is as good at acting as he is at batting.

Tom Moody and David Warner are seriously biased towards Aussie players. How can you pick Henriques/Cutting ahead of Kane?

STEVIES ON APRIL 12, 2017, 18:39 GMT --- Put on your glasses, it hit the other dart which means that it would've landed the same place as the other dart.

Hmm watched it again, is this a joke? The last one looked like it hit the wall a couple of feet above the dartboard.

  • Garry on April 12, 2017, 18:31 GMT

Of course he bet Warner, he is better that him at everything - batting in all formats, bowling, fielding, captaincy. Makes you wonder why he can't even make the team.
