Ricky Ponting could miss the fourth Test between Australia and West Indies in Antigua, starting tomorrow, because of a viral infection.
Ponting, who scored centuries in each of the first three Tests, missed most of the final day's play in last week's third Test at Bridgetown. "If the match began on Thursday, he wouldn't be able to play," said Australia's captain, Steve Waugh.
Waugh, who also scored a century in Barbados - his 30th in Tests - has reiterated his desire to prolong his Test career. "There's always been a tendency to write players off when they get to a certain age," Waugh told BBC Sport. "I like to break stereotypes and hopefully this is another one I can put to rest.
"I feel I've still got a few more years in me yet," he added. "Maybe I could keep going for another 15 years. Graham Gooch played some of his best cricket after 40, so anything's possible. It's in the hands of the selectors. I don't expect any favours from them and I've never asked for any in the past."
