Lehmann eyes coaching career with Yorkshire

Darren Lehmann, the Australian batsman, hopes to return to Yorkshire in a coaching role. Lehmann, Yorkshire's first overseas captain, is overcoming a heel injury in South Australia, but said he would like to return to England after March, when the Australian domestic season concludes.

"I would love to go back to Yorkshire and I'm ready to go next year," Lehmann said in the Northern Echo. "It's a case of waiting to see if there is a role the club would want me to play alongside Martyn Moxon [Yorkshire's director of coaching].

"Yorkshire are a great club and I've got happy memories of my time at Headingley. I can't think of anywhere else I would rather start my coaching career."

Lehmann said he could take on a position looking after the emerging players. "If they want me to work with the club's young batsmen that would be fantastic, but I'm interested in any role, really, because I just love the place and I've got a lot of friends there. I'm in constant contact with people at Yorkshire like [the chief executive] Stewart Regan so if there is an opportunity I would be very interested to hear about it."

Lehmann said he has been impressed by the legspinner Adil Rashid. "He is going to be a superstar if he keeps working hard on his batting and bowling and I think he could get picked on England's winter tours to Sri Lanka and New Zealand," he said.
