Nottinghamshire are confident that overseas batsman and Twenty20 captain Adam Voges will not be leaving the county at a critical stage of the season to compete in the inaugural Sri Lanka Premier League, which is due to begin next month.
Although Voges, the former Australia international who has played in the IPL and more recently for Melbourne Stars in the Big Bash League, is listed as one of eight overseas players on the roster of the Kandurata franchise, Notts insist his obligations at Trent Bridge will be met in full.
"He is with us for the rest of the season, he will not be going to Sri Lanka," a Nottinghamshire spokesman said. The new competition features seven teams and will run from August 10-31. Finals Day in the Friends Life t20, for which Notts are among the favourites to qualify, is on August 25.
A total of 56 overseas players - which did not comprise any from England or India - were selected by the seven franchises via a draft system.
Apart from Voges, there were 17 other Australians named, including Brad Hodge, Dirk Nannes, Clint McKay and Ryan Harris. Chris Gayle, Kemar Roach and Fidel Edwards are among the West Indies contingent, although Kieron Pollard and Dwayne Bravo, as well as offspinner Sunil Narine, were not included.
