Dan Redfern, the former Derbyshire left-hand batsman, has signed a two-year with Leicestershire.
He was released from his Derbyshire deal by mutual consent in November despite having two years left to run. In 70 first-class matches he averages 29.47, with two hundreds, and struggled to establish a permanent place at Derby.
Redfern said: "I am grateful to Phil Whitticase and his staff for this opportunity and look forward to the challenge ahead."
Leicestershire's director of cricket, Phil Whitticase, said: "We are really pleased to welcome Dan to Grace Road, he will be a great addition for us. Dan is a quality young top-order batsman, he is excellent in the field and also bowls good off-spin, so we are delighted to have him on board."
Over the winter, Leicestershire have made a number of signings including Charlie Shreck who has joined from Kent. Allrounder Ben Raine and offspinner Rob Sayer, the latter who is part of England's Under-19 squad at the World Cup, have also been given professional contracts while Ramnaresh Sarwan returns as the overseas player.
