Powerful knocks from Phil Mustard and Graham Onions had Derbyshire in a stew at Chester-le-Street before Durham ran out of overs to hand the visitors a nail-biting two-run win. Chasing 173 for victory, the pair spread the Derbyshire bowlers all over the ground, smashing four sixes and 12 fours but it was too little, too late. "It's devastating," Mustard commented afterwards. "You play cricket to win, so to lose the way we did, after going so close, is massive."
Clever, tidy bowling from Darren Maddy and Adam Griffith, the Tasmanian, helped Leicestershire inflict an easy 21-run win over Yorkshire at Headingley. Maddy earlier fell for 5, but there were brisk knocks from Hilton Ackerman (45) and Paul Nixon (52).
