Nottinghamshire have signed David Alleyne from Middlesex on a two-year deal as wicketkeeping cover for Chris Read.

Alleyne, 27, had been unable to gain a regular place in the Middlesex side, and although he moves to Trent Bridge as an understudy, Read's England commitments means that he is likely to play most matches.

"I am delighted to have been given an opportunity by Nottinghamshire and am really excited by this prospect," Alleyne said. "Even though the start of the season is some way off I'm sure I am not alone in saying that I can't wait until we get under way. The chance to play regular first team cricket is something I have always wanted and to be a big part of a club's success is really what drives me.

"I spent an enjoyable time with Middlesex and my cricketing education with them was excellent but my career slightly slowed last year and my appearances were somewhat limited. It was agreed that it was in my best interest to look elsewhere for my opportunities."
