Derbyshire's long list of injuries lengthened again yesterday when Chris Rogers, one of their overseas players from Western Australia, was ruled out for the rest of the season with a shoulder injury. Rogers, 26, had previously broken a finger and a thumb as well as suffering an ankle injury, but this time he's out of the season for good.
Rogers, who averages over 44 in first-class cricket, scored 498 runs in six matches for Derbyshire this summer, but he has been told his shoulder requires urgent treatment, and hence he will fly home. Derbyshire have no plans to replace Rogers with another overseas player.
