Chad Keegan: career-best figures of 6 for 33 with his new action © Middlesex CCC
Middlesex 91 for 0 (Weekes 52*) defeated Nottinghamshire 173 (Keegan 6-33) by 35 runs (D/L method)
Scorecard
Chad Keegan's re-modelled action paid dividends as he took 6 for 33 to help Middlesex dismiss Nottinghamshire for 173 and win the match by 35 runs (D/L method) at Trent Bridge. Nottinghamshire slumped from 53 for 1 to 75 for 6, as Keegan took five wickets in 19 balls, and although Chris Read and Ryan Sidebottam staged something of a recovery, the damage had been done. Paul Weekes and Ed Smith guided Middlesex to 91 for 0, well ahead of the required run-rate when the rain came.
Worcestershire 211 for 4 (Solanki 119) beat Northamptonshire 137 for 7 by 31 runs (D/L method)
Scorecard
Vikram Solanki blasted 119 to lift Worcestershire to 211 for 4 as they defeated Northamptonshire by 31 runs (D/L method) at the County Ground. Solanki and Stephen Moore posted an opening stand of 105 before Steffan Jones removed Moore for 36. There was little to cheer about for Northamptonshire's bowlers, who were roundly dispatched and their batsmen were left with much to do on a grassy pitch.
Essex 69 for 2 beat Hampshire 175 for 9 by 16 runs (D/L method)
Scorecard
There was no heroic debut for Kevin Pietersen, as he made a scratchy 5 before he was yorked by Tim Phillips, and that summed up Hampshire's day. They managed only 175 for 9 as wickets tumbled steadily, Simon Katich topscoring with 38 before he became another of Phillips' three victims. Will Jefferson made a brisk 44 to ensure Essex were ahead when persistent rain forced the match to be abandoned.
Lancashire 160 for 8 v Glamorgan - Match abandoned
Scorecard
Simon Jones rediscovered his form and promptly wreaked havoc to leave Lancashire reeling at 38 for 3 at a chilly Old Trafford. He found a nagging line and length to remove Stuart Law, Mal Loye and Mark Chilton cheaply. Iain Sutcliffe was the only batsman from the top five to reach double figures before Robert Croft cut short his charge to trap him lbw on 36. But it was rain that curtailed the rest of the innings, and indeed the entire match. The match was abandoned, with the teams sharing the points.
