MS Dhoni, India's captain, has defended his decision to leave Virender Sehwag out and play three specialist spinners against Australia, saying tournaments like World Twenty20 merited a "horses for courses" policy. Dhoni's omission of Sehwag was widely criticised - both after the toss when the team was announced, and after the match - and his team-mate, Suresh Raina, admitted that it would not be "easy" to get through the remaining Super Eights games without Sehwag in the XI.

Dhoni said after the defeat: "Regarding why Sehwag [was left out], we had only two options [in terms of players]. I don't like to take individual names, I think in such tournaments we should go 'horses for courses'. To exactly justify why a particular player was dropped is difficult."

Raina told the BBC: "For me I think Virender Sehwag can be very dangerous. I hope he'll play the next two games. I think it won't be easy to play the next two games without him."

Friday's match was India's first Super Eight match of this World Twenty20: they scored 140, which Australia chased inside 15 overs. Irfan Pathan, opening in Sehwag's absence, scored 31 off 30, failing to kick on after a good start. Piyush Chawla, effectively the extra spinner accommodated through Sehwag's omission, went for 14 runs in one over. The same combination, though, had worked well in the group game against England, which India won by 90 runs, with Chawla taking 2 for 13 against the hapless English batsmen who had little experience of quality spin.

Former India captain Sunil Gavaskar lamented the absence of a settled opening partnership and the fear factor that Sehwag brings. "Gautam Gambhir is a very good street smart cricketer," Gavaskar told NDTV. "He has a very good understanding with Sehwag and so breaking their partnership was not a good idea. He (Sehwag) has a fear factor against the opposition."

Gavaskar was more severe about Chawla's incusion. "Piyush Chawla, since the 2011 World Cup, has not figured anywhere in the Indian team," he said. "Has not even been in the back of any selector's mind. Why not go with Amit Mishra? What's wrong with Rahul Sharma? I sit in the commentary box and I look at his [Chawla's] face and I hope to God, 'Let him not be hit for a boundary.'" He also said Chawla's body language "does not inspire confidence".

Kevin Pietersen, now a pundit with the host broadcasters Star Cricket, was also disappointed Sehwag didn't play. "I feel sorry for Viru," Pietersen said. "I know Australia would rather face an Indian side without Sehwag in it."

However, Sourav Ganguly, another former India captain, said he could understand why the move was made. "I'm not surprised with that," Ganguly said. "It's the right decision, looking at the context of the game and the nature of the pitch. India have gone in with five bowlers and three spinners … It's a good decision, but a one-off decision I'm sure. Sehwag will come back, it's horses for courses."

Ganguly and Pietersen were speaking before the start of the game.

Why sehwag out from the team for last 2 matches? It is now creating pressure on sehwag that, he (Sehwag) have to play some inningses which can give him a permanent position in the team. Sehwag is not out of the form, one man can't play long innings everyday. I think Dhoni have to make team list with stil Sehwags on the top of the team. It does matter to drop sehwag out of the team.

Dhoni would have won this game without zaheer and Sehwag. Unfortunately he needs them to keep the team united. There was fire in the team. India can win this game easily i think.

Posted by   on (September 30, 2012, 11:47 GMT)

I am sure India will win this game to keep their hopes live. Whenever Dhoni go in he should think of scoring more than run a ball. I feel that Rohit body language was not good during Australia match. He should be more focused and move his feet well. Dont bring the spinners till batting power play is over. Pakistan can play spin well and they can spin well too. Good luck boys.

Hai guys its cricket , comments are easy but on practical it is too difficult to manage the situation.

Every one knows Dhoni is the ICC world Cricket team captain , He know what to do all the best india we have confident we will back on track as CSK done in IPL.

I will not say this is good decision or bad decision, good to play 5 bowlers but why sehwag is left out. What Rohit Sharma is doing in the team? Weather its team decision or personal rift........... whatever it is but team india is losing because of this and will loose lot of match in future

Posted by   on (September 30, 2012, 7:16 GMT)

Even if sehwag plays and scores today, it wont affect opponents as they will chase target easily with our medium pace/spin bowlers. It was a shameful moment that Indian team doesnt have a single fast bowlers.

One man cannot get a team through a tournament.. its team effort and thats what has been missing in India' team.. anyways hope to see a good match between Ind and Pak today.. Pak surely has better chance of winning against poor bowling side..

Posted by Robert-Dignum on (September 30, 2012, 5:14 GMT)

There doesn't appear to be any great equation between Dhoni & Raina---otherwise why would you send the batsman with ICC ranking #3 (behind Mccullum & Gayle) only when the team is in a crisis and that too after Irfan, Rohit and the not fully recovered Yuvraj? Even during the World Cup when Raina was brought in only during the knock-out stage as a replacement for Yusuf Pathan and played a crucial role, he said in a post-match interview " I really want to thank Gary (Kirsten) for giving me this opportunity" !!

Posted by ravensloft on (September 30, 2012, 4:06 GMT)

The only reason india won the england match was because it was a dead rubber. Such critical errors were made in the Australia match that show what a farce indian cricket has become. Dhoni seems more lucky than capable. First of why pick rohit sharma and raina, neither seems capable enough to hold a bat, you can still excuse picking raina cause he is a good fielder but what exactly does sharma bring to the table. why would you make a bowler of pathans pedigree who primarily picks wickets in his first spell bowl in the tenth over. If you look at him bowling later he either gets hit or doesn't em to be able to generate the bite. Concerning sehwag, true nobody knows what would of happened but if you believe that Sehwag is a class player you also have to believe that after being dropped he would of put his heart into making sure he performed well against Australia

Posted by 3399 on (September 30, 2012, 3:07 GMT)

name of sehwag is enough to discourage any bowler bcos he is the batsmen who score runs even on good dillivers and he is capable of destroying any bowling line up in world. lets hope MSD will understand this and include him in team

Posted by RaviNarla on (September 30, 2012, 2:08 GMT)

I don't why people keep blaming Dhoni for India's Loss. True he is reponsible but it is the bowlers that bowled a horrible length. Most of Watson's sixes came of the back foot. Our bowlers bowled too many short deliveries. On top of that Ashwin did not bowl his usual self. He kept on repeating the pause and deliver. It is clearly the bowlers fault. South Africa with a modest total of 133 were able to fight it out even though they lost. It does not matter who Dhoni picks, it is that person who need to deliver not Dhoni. But there is one mistake Dhoni is doing it for sure is inclusion of Yuvaraj singh. Drop Yuvaraj and Piyush. Bring in Sehwag and Manoj Tiwary. India will still have Rohit, Raina and Sehwag will complete the fifth bowlers quota. Sehwag, Gambhir, Kohli, Raina, Rohit, Tiwary, Dhoni, Irfan, Ashwin, Harbhajan, Zaheer is the ideal 11 agains Pak. I am sure Dhoni will play Yuvaraj in place of Manoj.

We shouldnt bash on MSD so much, the other day we were praising him for trashing England, we need to understand that Watson is in the form of his life in this tournament and it was again his day, yes there were some blunders on MSDs part but it happens.. BUT I honestly feel MSD should quit t20s, hes not doing enough and he should take the break from it when he gets it. Virat or Gautam would be better captians since they both like to attack. On Virus parrt, hes a great player but still I think Rahane should have been brought in and on Yuvis part.. very rushed come back, he should have played some cricket then we should have brought him in. But I feel we will beat pakistan and lose to SA. no Semis in the World t20s again.

Posted by Dhutugemunu on (September 30, 2012, 0:12 GMT)

This is not about Shewag's form. Only the rift between MS and VS. Personal problems affect the team.

Posted by MoCrik on (September 29, 2012, 23:39 GMT)

No Yuvi. Sehwag plz..you guys should reach Semis, only Sehwag & Gambir can do it for us..

In the spinning conditions of Sri Lanka Manoj Tiwary did well in the last ODI series and he hasn't got any chance till now Rohit Sharma is not in Good form so Manoj Tiwari should be given chance he can bowl useful leg spinners and India can have 2 Spinners and 2 medium pacers along with the part timers like Yuvi and Raina,Dhoni should give a chance to reserve players, but he always go with the same combination how many chances does rohit sharma needs ,when you need him he gets out. I hope they will beat Pakistan tomorrow to stay alive in the tournament.Best of Team India

I dont know why sehwag is not selected against Australia. Is Sehwag not an aggressive player? Did his recent performance was poor?... STUPID DECISION....( However Dhoni's performance in t20 is poorer than Sehwag). If somebody has to give a way for the 5th bowler it should be Yuvi, since he is not 100% fit

MSD facing huge criticism by omitting Sehwag and playing three spinners

Everybody is criticising MSD but my question is even after looking at the dismal form, was it worth to play with Sehwag. After the outcome of the match, it is easier to say it was a wrong decision.

Let's assume India had included Sehwag in the squad against Australia and icing on the cake was Sehwag scoring 100 and India scoring 200. My question is do you expect India would have won the match. Looking at the India's dismal bowling attack, I would say a big NO.

Posted by Deathonhand on (September 29, 2012, 16:48 GMT)

Hey , Dhoni Don't think about others opinion.. These lame people don't take time in changing their opinion. Your decision was right. Just a off day! Never mind.

Posted by CricketFanIndUS on (September 29, 2012, 16:36 GMT)

Sehwag's inclusion may not have changed the result of the game. His inclusion would have made our team score more runs, but our reliance on the spin factor too much in our bowling is the main reason we lost. If spin does not work that day or if the opposion batsmen happen to play very well that day what do you do then? Watson and Warner destroyed the bowling on that particular day. If our extended team prepared for this better and for variable conditions the game would have been close at least. Also India can easily bounce back and win next two games, these are after all T20s - anything can happen on a given day, also you need luck especially with the rain and the D/L method.

Posted by dork29 on (September 29, 2012, 16:02 GMT)

Everyone has an opinion when you give them the benefit of hindsight. Dhoni won a match with hthe same combination. This time he lost it mainly owing to the course. His horses for courses was not a mistake. The course turned around and did not vindicate his gamble of three spinners. He has not ruled out Sehwag for the next match if the conditions are not spinner firendly. The question is, not the inclusion of Chawla - it is the inclusion of Yuvraj.he is not fully there yet - he needs time. Having packed your team with three spinners, why include another in the form of Yuvraj who has been out of match practice for the last year and that too for such an important match? Sehwag should have been included in place of Yuvraj and not Chawla.Sehwag has not justified his inclusion in recent times with his lackadaisical attitude and scratchy form. However, Dhoni could have gambled on him. As he rightly pointed out, rain rendered even Bhajji ineffective - so why blame Chawla alone?

hw can a player like virender sehwag sit out in such a crucial match against aussies...in each of MS's press confrence dhoni use to say we r always fine with 7 batsman ...then wat decisions were made last day.....y u want 3 spinners in playin 11 wen u hav bowlers like yuvraj nd virat ..they can complete quota f 4 overs easily... veeru's inclusion in 11 could b far far better than pathan scoring 31 off 30...... our players always say...never they execute the plans... very afraid of our elimination frm the WC.... hw such mistakes cn be done ...i dnt knw...wen we peopl sitting here cn judge d wrng decisions? we have lots f expectations fr u....

It is an universal statement that India can not cross super eight without viru. Why MSD do not understand this. He need to drop from everything, if India does not qualify this time in s8 .............

Well said Vin.. If dhoni's intention is good in sehwag's sit out then fine. I don't see any fair in sehwag's sits out for having 5specialist bowlers. According to my opinion we are already having two alrounders who can bowl 5overs. so we need only 3 bowlers....

Posted by smartjkm on (September 29, 2012, 14:10 GMT)

I accept India played badly in batting... but in my opinion bowlers whether chawla or any one else cannot be blammed completely... why is everyone completely ignoring the fact that it rained... and none of bowlers were able to grip the ball properly... without rain... the same match may have ended differently...

I don't find any mistake in the ommision of Sehwag..but whom is he leaving Sehwag? for Chawla/Harbhajan? thats really sounds funny. However, i attribute this loss to selectors. Where is Rahul Sharma, Amit Mishra? in the squd. Also, Rohit has become to a liability to team.. Tiwary should be given a chance now.

Posted by sree97 on (September 29, 2012, 13:40 GMT)

I think it is time for change the way of captancy, like Australia we have to have different captaincy for each format(Test, one day and T 20), for T 20 we need to have aggressive person,Dhoni seems to be slowing down,we need to have a dynamic person,I think he did a mistake omit sehwag in last game,I know you got to bring new people in the game, looks like he supports rohit ,instead of him,you have plenty better players like manoj tiwari, poojari, they are good batsman than rohit, and he also like as win,he has to give a chance to rahul sharma, when is he going to them chance after all the games over,I think he needs a rest for captaincy.

Posted by Badgerofdoom on (September 29, 2012, 13:36 GMT)

Why is Raina commenting? He should not give his opinion on selection issues.

Posted by Raochowdary on (September 29, 2012, 13:35 GMT)

Yesterday Dhoni's decision was very foolish. Why five specialists in twenty twenty games. Whoever the bowler the apposition will try to hit. So we should have dashing batsmen like viru and gambhir. Dhoni should make sehwag to play in next matches.

Posted by uksar on (September 29, 2012, 13:19 GMT)

Sehwag is lucky that he has not been included in the team. We all know what he has been doing for the team in the couple of years. He always looks a amateur cricketer rather than a professional one. In Sehwag's omission I support Dhoni. But I think three major issues a. four/five bowlers theory, b. short ball issue and c. over dependency on Rohit have raffled Dhoni. Probably Dhoni is more under pressure than any time in his life and most contributing factor is Rohit. It was sad for India that all the three payers (Rohit, Harvhajan, Chawla) whose inclusion in the squad raised lot of questions excelled in an unimportant match against weaker England (probably the only match in which they did well in last 12 months or more). So many, Dhoni as well misperceived. I don't think this team has any chance to bounce back against the other two tough teams.

experts rates dhoni as a good captain . take a look at the record of dhoni after wc 2011 . 8 straight losses in over seas tests , winless england tour , finished last in cb series , asia cup lost ,t20 lost against nz , now this defeat . TIME FOR DHONI TO STEP DOWN CAPTAINCY , INDIA SHOULD MAKE KOHLI AS CAPTAIN . HE IS MORE AGRESSIVE .

Sehwag can't be left out from the playing Eleven, You have got choices Leave out Rohit Sharma, Sehwag's a better choice any day or Play 4 bowlers Sehwag & Yuvi can cover up the 5th bowlers qouta both being quality part-time spinners and wickets in Sri Lanka are helping spinners

Posted by Vin2006 on (September 29, 2012, 12:33 GMT)

I see a lot of criticism on the latest decision that MS took. If India had won the game, then there will be a lot of praise for the decision. I feel just that India had a bad day on Fridayl. The pitch was supposed to offer turn suiting our spinners after Pak vs SF match and us bowling second and only for that reason 3 specialist spinners were chosen for the match. Secondly, I think we already have 3 specialist spinners with Ashwin, Yuvi and one spinner in place of dinda/L Balaji, Yuvi cannot be told as part timer now with his level of bowling. In that sense, we could have made Sehwag play without Chawla/Harbajan. Hope we learn from the mistakes and bounce back on Sunday. and Manoj Tiwari deserves a match in place of Rohit!!!

Posted by stormy16 on (September 29, 2012, 12:20 GMT)

No matter what anyone says but not to play Sewag in a knock out game just makes no sense unless he is being rested. Yes India has plenty of batting options but there is only one Sewag and all opponents will be happy to play India without Sewag much like not having to play Aus without Warner or WI without Gayle. It makes no sense! Not sure about Chawla, think he is a decent leggie and once again India's issue is which leggie to pick from Chawla, Mishra and Sharma - most teams cant find one leggie.

Pathan should open the bowling not batting..I know he is a good hitter but players like him are best suited at 6/7 for t20 atleast. Indian is under pressure now.

Posted by yash25 on (September 29, 2012, 11:33 GMT)

Continued from my last comment. 4th Mistake - India has flexibility in bowling options. If the Pitch assist spinner, then he has enough spinners like Sahewag, Yuvraj, Rohit and Raina to Asssist Ashwin and Harbhajan. Third spinner is just waste. India should go with Zahir, Irfan, Ashwin, Harbhajan and 7 batsmen. This is the ideal combination, Kohli can also bowl medium pace if required. So actually India has 9 bowlers in elevan except Dhoni and Gambhir. Actually I would like Praveen kumar in above squad in place of harbhajan. But he is not available.

Posted by   on (September 29, 2012, 11:33 GMT)

Bring in Viru for Rohit and Manoj for Chawla.. Manoj can double up as an extra spinner..

Posted by yash25 on (September 29, 2012, 11:30 GMT)

Dhoni's Mistakes (1) Played 5 bowlers. Yuvraj, Kohli, Rohit, Raina and Sahewag can bowl better than Chawla 9 out of 10 times as a 5th bowler. Yuvaraj is not a part time bowler. In bowling, he is similar to Afridi. Also Dhoni has stopped using Sahewag as a bowler without any reason. Sahewag is as good as Yuvraj. He used to bowl full quota of 10 overs. (2) Second Mistake - Kept Sahewag Out. He may not be in better form recently. But if he plays once in every 4 game, then India can post big total. Without him, India can post average 150 to 170, which is not enough considering India's current bowling strength. (3) Third mistake - Choose first batting. With current bowling strength, he should not hope for winning if the target for opposition is less than 180. We should accept that we don't have good bowlers to defend low totals. If you bat second, you know the target, and most of the time, with current batting strength (offcourse with Sahewag), you can chase the target.

Sad to see that Manoj Tiwary and Rahul Sharma do not get a look into the team.Rohit fails too often and Chawla is mediocre.Poor bowling is the Achilles heel for India.

I think there is a dispute between sewag and dhoni.T20 is batsmens game and using 5 bowler stratergy is ridiculous.there are very good fast bowlers in INDIA.The selectors should select players based on performance and not by names.Sewag can play instead if GAmbhir becoz he is not in form.Atleast against Pakistan go for 9 batsmen instead of 5 bowlers.

Posted by Haleos on (September 29, 2012, 11:10 GMT)

Its defensive tactics of dhoni which is killing. Why continue with Ashwin(who is highly overrated as a bowler anyway) with 3 overs when he was getting trashed? It was perplexing why Ashwin was not bowling a single off break. People think he is better than bhajji. Well he is not. Bhajji is early days was 100 times better than ashwin. He was economical as well as taking wickets. we already have too many spinners. Why drop Viru who can bowl an over or two. Pathan should have played like a pinch hitter and not a test batsman.

Dhoni's blunders are becoming embarassing. They just keep multiplying and causing extreme chagrin to Indian fans. Although stats confirm that Premadassa favours those batting second. More so when there is rain in the air. D/L too sides with the second innings. When you are playing three spinners, an intelligent captain would try and give his spinners optimum bowling conditions and a dry ball. Yet Dhoni's" instincts" override any intelligent thought process. Irfan's late induction inspite of his success against England made no sense Winning the toss and choosing to bat first really puts the crown on Dhoni's abysmal efforts. Maybe one should stop and question his qualifications for captaincy. Other than Tendulkar's recommendation, I can't detect any. Neither in U-19s, nor in India A teams nor in Ranji Trophy. So where does his proficiency come from? His juggling himself up and down the batting line-up to hog the limelight has caused havoc with the stability of the Indian middle order.

It is surprise to see how Zaheer is still able to select for T20, he is not a good fielder either and not won a game for us since many years with his bowling. He bowled without using his any experience and sometime bowl like a fresher. He can be described as slow bowler, giving too much full toss, swing without any effect to the batsman, providing width delivery to get hit, no reverse swing and who can give more than 10 runs every over. Please groom some good fast bowler BCCI and MRF pace foundation, our current fast bowling attack is less effective than Afganistan.

Posted by Dalajit on (September 29, 2012, 10:32 GMT)

Dear Dhoni Sir, are you deserve to be in the team with your strike rate??? What about Rohit Sharma, who could score once after 15-20 match of experiments??? Even a Ranji or District level player can score a half century if given a chance for 15-20 matches. So, simply dropping Sehwag is not a justification of any decision taken by Dhoni. He is becoming a more detector than a thinking captain who earlier was thinking good for the team. So, get your best team against rest of the match without any bios or leave the tournament without any win in Super8 stage which we had already seen in last two world cup. So play the following team which I'm sure everybody else would be agreed: 1. Sehwag 2. Gambhir, 3. Kohli, 4. Yuvraj/Manoj 5. Raina, 6. Dhoni, 7. Irfan, 8. Ashwin, 9. Harbhajan, 10. Balaji, 11. Zaheer/Dhinda

I think Shewag couldn't changed result but also way better than Rohit. Unfortunately He has huge Cricket pundits backing so Dhoni opted easier root. It was selectors responsibility to give proper team to him

Dropping Sehwag and opening with irfan pathan was a very bad idea... I think for his worst performance he( Dhoni) should be kicked out from t20 and Gambhir should take the place (captaincy) of Dhoni.. And it could become an opportunity for young players (Wicket keepers) to enter international cricket.

I think we should give Viru the chance to play again/ MS has chosen people like Rohit .Raina chawla Zac who have done nothing worth whileRohit will quiten down for he has scored 2 fifties which will help him to play for 20 more matches/Raina will be again palying whenever he scores 15-20 runs-he is not a match winner like Virat/the only better bats man is Shewag with Ghabir and leaving this opening pair is absolulte madness whether you need 5 bowlers or not/Aussies wont drop S watson even if he is off the form /Look at the way Paks palying/even if one person failing the other takes over /from 6 wickets down for 60 or so managed to win /where on earth Indians will do if they keep the people like Zac Chawla Raina who dont have same enthusiasm/indians will loose all their matches and go back to India like last time / what does that matter to their captain/ Mohimder is right/ drop MS for few matches/let him feel the same insult like others

india should play with 4 blower and 7 batsman, with 3 pacer and 1 spiner ashwin, dont know why dhoni change his policy of playing this combinatoin,as he many part timer who bowl well

I really feel what has happened to Dhoni....See his batting and decisions which he is taking....Everyone knows how dangerous Sehwag can be...He is a match winner....Just see at Piyush Chawla....His face tells that he is just there in the team because of Nepotism of Dhoni.............Pathetic batting from Dhoni and Pathetic captaincy.....We have to back Sehwag...If we have any chance of going to Super 8 we have to bring Sehwag back and drop Piyush for next 2 matches....Dhoni just pull up your socks...high time that you blame rain and batting for the loss.....Perform or Perish..........Indians won't be able to tolerate if he goofs up with his batting and captaincy during Pakistan match.............We need Sehwag at any cost

Just drop the Dhoni all the problems will be solved

Posted by   on (September 29, 2012, 9:52 GMT)

I feel that Dhoni has lived his shelf-liofe as a captain after 5 years at the helm. About time he went. Rohit Sharma ought to have been axed if it ewas aquestion of playing five bowlers. Irfan Pathan should have bateed in Sharma's place and that would have given Pathan a chance to bat at 6/7. Better look for the tail to have this way. Making Sehwag sit out and having Sharma at the park was like going to a party on a Maruti 800 while the Mercedes was left in the garage (to quote J. Srinath). STUPID decision for which India may not progress beyond the Super Eights.

Dhoni's experiment with the senor players in australia spoiled the tour. now again in 20 20 world cup he started . How longs fans will tolerate this ? Don't know what selectors & coach doing ?????

it is a good decision by mr.cool to drop sehwag yeasterday....now it is the time to bring him back into the action...for sure he will blast in remaining games...

Posted by   on (September 29, 2012, 9:35 GMT)

Sehwag should have been in the team. Common he is a far better player than you Mr. Dhoni. And what more say about 'talented' Rohit Sharma. Manoj Tiwary is not on a holiday to SL, he is there to play. Pick him up. Dhoni was the only one talking big about the role of part timers. Then why pick 5 specialist bowlers ? To drop Sehwag may be ?

rohit sharma.....played 5 one day intl in sri lanka tour and i think never reached double figures in any match, piyush chawla has he played cricket after world cup, i guess dhoni thinks piyush is his lucky mascot, who got hit all over the park by ireland in bang......cmmon dhoni SEHWAG name itself is enough for the bowler to pee in his pants

The man who was scored five consecutive half century with more then 170 strike rate in recent IPL also stike rate more than 150 in international t20, he dropped.why? MSD is still playing with poor strike rate and not have a single t20 match winning innings because he is captain why not rahane?. Where all team sending their best batsman in no 1,2,3 but india sending pathan, why not Virat gambir, raina?. Pathan was very good form with new ball but he came to ball in 14 overs.why? India played five bowlers but why rohit, virat, yuvraj needed to ball?.

i cant understand wat dhoni would do wid all those spinners against a side like aussies he is using them to bowl short balls i think(LOL)...he thinks they r clicked against england but look at that eng side which doesnt hav experienced players to play against spin

Posted by RanjithShettyJordan on (September 29, 2012, 9:01 GMT)

This is the comment i posted in TOI before the match. ''Who told Yuvaraj is struggling? Dhoni is really struggling to rise the run rate after good starts given by top order. Even when all the top tree scored in good strike rate , instead of sending yuvaraj , who can attack from first ball, this dhoni came and scratched through the final over.Who is the writer of this article? can he compare yuvaraj stats and dhoni's stats in all the matches played in this world cup. Yuvraj took 3 wickets in one match to save india and he has not given opportunity to bowl or bat in the next match. Is this game played by dhoni to bench sewag and yuvaraj both can bowl different type os spin to save his place in the team. He also sidelined robin uttappa out of national team to save his place, because he can keep wickets and open the batting. How we gave captainship to dhoni, in 2007 , we should have given captainship to kohli in 2012 t20 world cup to groom him for the future.''

Posted by   on (September 29, 2012, 9:01 GMT)

If its inclusion of Sehwag or any other batsman but its a Must now because India's strength is Batting not bowling. You cant make it stronger by adding more average bowlers. Instead you can make your batting stronger by adding good batsman for this version. Playing with 5 Bowlers and then going back to Sharma, Yuraj and Kohli to bowl is rubbish. Go with 8 Batters and 3 Specialist Bowlers. Your part timers (Sharma, Yuraj, Kohli, Sehwag, Raina ) can bowl remaining 8 overs for you. With this lineup win the toss and Elect to Bowl first and with that Batting lineup you can chase 180+.

Posted by the_sport on (September 29, 2012, 8:54 GMT)

well said Gavskar...it is inappropriate to break one of the best team of openers. At the moment Viru, Gauti and Kohli at the top is the best order. I cud undertsand abt an expriment against England but when u r playing in Super Eight then u have to go with ur best 11 possible. If the really wanted Pathan to open the inning, then Sharma had to be aside and Viru should b always there. Now Viru is under pressure of performing better than wht needed....more expectations from around 1 billion cricket lovers from all over the world. Best Wishes Viru.

Kick out Rohit and Piyush Chawla. Bring Sehvag and Manoj Tiwary. Tiwary is a better leg spinner than Piyush. That will strengthen both batting and bowling.

It was dissapointing to see the game without Viru... hope they will include him in next two games....

Posted by   on (September 29, 2012, 8:39 GMT)

sehwag has a strong fear factor against opposition which could be utilised and I think piyush chawla is not suitble for playing eleven and one more chance to Manoj tiwary

Posted by deadite11 on (September 29, 2012, 8:37 GMT)

Keep things cool, after all this is a T-20 WC, India doesnt experienced the most in this format, and it is really tough to make IPL players from each team to co operate. India has maximum matches with tests and 50 overs. Why nobody asked about sehwag in last match when he left out? If so sehwag played yesterday and he makes single digit and dropped few catches means many will question why the winning combination changed? And as per fact yesterday match b/w Aus vs Pak spinners played a major role, that makes the captain to think about the squad. His calculation gone wrong.

My Question is : If sehwag makes some runs on the board also aussies will chase it. Bowling is the reason we lose IMO.

Posted by Vikas0633 on (September 29, 2012, 8:28 GMT)

I had Sehwag as my Fantasy Captain ... dropping him came to me as surprise. People have pushed Dhoni with 5 bowler thread and he is going insane now to prove that you only need 4 bowlers......Also I should point out that Irphan is not Watson, Kallis or Hafeez .....not yet.

to blame the rain for the loss is just little too much i could expect from a dhoni ..they were clearly blown away by the better side ...india always had a pathatic bolwing side as you could see even in the world cup 2011 they were unsecure even after socring 350 so its backs to the wall against the pakistan side which can be devastating for a side which is already downhill

Posted by Mehulsoni2012 on (September 29, 2012, 8:15 GMT)

Frankly Speaking India doesn't at ll ve d bowling firepower to defend any score even 200+ score... Name any fast bowler who goes 150+ speed...??? From 121 cr of d population dat v have, v r unable to pic 5 atleast quality genuine bowlers who can create fear in any opposition... really feeling bad as our country is not being able to produce quality of good bowlers or there is some bad politics is avoiding such...? There should b some fight from our side otherwise there is no need of playing of such awful cricket, wasting time n fame of d country...??? Plz fight n win d next 2 game n qualify for semi....best of luck n work much more harder than ever becoz its now or never thing in mind....

Posted by mylife4cricket on (September 29, 2012, 8:07 GMT)

cant blame dhoni,as a captain he has to think of possibilities and to bring 3 spinners and a total of 5 bowlers was not a bad decision on that pitch. In my opinion, dhoni should have left sehwag and yuvraj as both of them are in poor form and give chance to manoj tiwary to open with gambhir and go with 5 bowlers. i think my idea will work if he chooses team like this against pakistan.

Posted by   on (September 29, 2012, 8:01 GMT)

Frankly, this batting line up is simply not good enough (including Sehwag). They are not in form. Raina and Kohli are doing good, but that is not enough. This is a plain simple fact. India's only hope is our spinners and opposition batters inability to play them. I hope they will win against Pakistan and SA....

Posted by Bruisers on (September 29, 2012, 7:54 GMT)

Drop Yuvraj, get Sehwag in. And let Raina and Rohit bat at No.4 and 5 respectively.

A team has played a T-20 match against mighty Australians keeping out most devastating batmen of contemporary cricket and humiliated. An unfit player like Yuvi gets selection ahead of Viru and failed to perform. It happens only in Indian Cricket.

Posted by trueanalyst on (September 29, 2012, 7:35 GMT)

If there is any player who needs to be dropped first it is MS Dhoni. For 2 reasons:1)He has destroyed the confidence and career of the man who creates the greatest fear among the opposition. Sehwag's record is worst when he does not enjoy the full support of the team Management,It was at the time of Greg Chappel & Now Dhoni. 2)Dhoni himself is the worst T20 Player of India. His strike rate is a measly 109 and what makes it worst is his average of 30. At least if his average was less it could have been better. It effectively means he is utilising 5 overs in every match and scoring 32 runs and that to at Slog overs.Proof of this is in last match against Australia and also against Newzealand where he was responsible for India's defeat. In slog overs strike rate should be 160.So every match he is denying 15 runs to the Indian total.

AT Rayudu should replace Dhoni after this world cup.MS Dhoni deserves only place in 50 over cricket where is the world's best player without doubt.

wat a match... as expected dhoni dropped sehwag again..... if he really has a problem wit viru he should have made clear to the selectors that he doesnt want viru in the squad.. dhoni have so much faith in ROHIT, BHAJJI, ZAHEER and his lucky mascot CHAWLA. I really wonder how chawla comes from nowhere to the world cup squad....MR. ROHIT PLAYS WELL ONE MATCH AND HE FALTERS THE NEXT MATCH. HE IS DOING THIS FOR YEARS AND BY LOOKING AT HIM HE LOOKS LIKE HE WILL CONTINUE TO DO SO.. BECAUSE DHONI DOES NOT PLAY WITHOUT HIM. ITS BETTER TO DROP YUVRAJ THEN SEHWAG.. YUVI DOES NOT LOOK LIKE HE BELONGS TO THE BIG LEAGUE...... I HOPE DHONI PLAYS SEHWAG AGAINST PAKISTAN. HAVE TO BEAT BOTH PAK & SA WITH BIG MARGIN OR HOPE THAT AUS WIN ALL THEIR MATCHES.............. STILL HAVING SOME FAITH IN DHONI. HOPE HE KEEPS HIS PERSONAL PROBLEMS ASIDE AND PLAY EITH FULL STRENGTH SQUAD.... GUYS PRAY FOR BETTER RESULTS COMING SUNDAY.....:*

Captain Cool M S Dhoni: Whatever he did was seen as 'simply superb' as long as the step he took brought victory and glory. But when a move of his goes wrong we smell conspiracy.

Frankly the entire Indian team's batting collapse and bowlers utter failure couldn't be blamed on his move to drop Virendra Sehwag.

It reminds of famed saying: "One day hero, the other day zero. We make it all". No doubt we are such an ass!

Posted by rajattiwaari on (September 29, 2012, 7:29 GMT)

I am more worried about dhoni's batting than his captaincy. In the last two T20 WCs , MSD has nt been able to win it for IND despite being on the crease at crucial times. He is yet to score a 50 in T20s. Suddenly people have started to miss sehwag. What has viru done in past 2 years. Scored a 100 in WC's opening game against bangladesh? That's it , that's what he has done .

Posted by abiindia on (September 29, 2012, 7:28 GMT)

only two players from indian cricket history made nightmare for other cricketers in the world is sehwag and yuvraj. one has disrespected by dhoni, at any circumstances his idea was very worst plan. sehwag should retire from cricket to teach them all a lesson.

the moment i saw team selection of india for this t20 world cup i was sure that this time we won't enter even semi-final. because there are no fast bowlers in our team, we never look like a balanced team. Even if we enter in to semis, it would only by sheer luck

Posted by Pubstar on (September 29, 2012, 7:17 GMT)

Viru was out of form,so he was dropped. If that is the case, how the hell rohit got into the team??if they say dat the previous match alone s the criteria for form and rohit did well in dat to be picked for the team den dhoni himself was miserable in the same game. viru's exclusion s for not being in form. if same applies for the entire team Dhoni himself must b out. i wonder in wat way yuvi comin bak after a year s more worthy and rohit wid single digit scores in the same island(dat too in odis) s worth enuf to b in the team.

Posted by Prabh_Hundal on (September 29, 2012, 7:15 GMT)

U cant play raina, virat and rohit in a same team. the 3 of them play at no.3 for there respective ipl teams. they cannot hit the ball from the word go . So they should only have to play one of three and on current form only kholi deserves the place and replacements are sehwag for rohit and uthappa for raina is the best choice. this batting line up cannot score 200 runs.

Posted by   on (September 29, 2012, 7:15 GMT)

dhoni done a huge mistake in droping "viru"...becoz in super eigts we need strong batting line up .he will destroy any bowler in the world...so dhoni pick up viru and go with 4 bowlers only it will be good other wise once again team india will return home after super eights onlynot reaching in the semis

Posted by vak1997 on (September 29, 2012, 6:57 GMT)

India are very good at chasing. they can rather chase in T20 games. they have T20 specialists like Gmabhir, Sehwag, Kohli, Raina, Yuvraj, Rohit...

Posted by Rahul_Acharya on (September 29, 2012, 6:47 GMT)

Dhoni gave the excuse of rain at the presentation. Excuses can be given sometimes, but not when losing by such a huge margin. India's 0-8 test losses were also by huge margin, most of the time the game not entering the 5th day. Every team loses, but regular humiliating losses like this and then escaping with excuses is not the right way. India's NRR is -2.5 and only way I can see them going thru' to SF is if SA lose all their matches, Aus win all their matches and India win their remaining matches (which is highly impossible). Viru has won lot of matches for India, and Rohit and Chawla has been given enuf chances

Posted by Ray24 on (September 29, 2012, 6:44 GMT)

Dhoni was right in dropping Sehwag. All fans would've been praising Dhoni if the decision had come off - remember Watson and Warner were playing beautifully. They were very determined and that's what mattered. If India has to drop anyone, it should be Ghambir and Yuvraj. It's about time they bring in new blood for T20's. Dhoni's time as a leader is also up, not because he is not good, but because he seems to be jaded and tired. Time to make Raina the captain.

Posted by praveen4honestremark on (September 29, 2012, 6:43 GMT)

After a bad result everyone will pounce on only one guy the CAPTAIN. Why should be blamed after all. I am not defending Dhoni here. Sehwag is in poor form from many series and Dhoni backed Sehwag because Dhoni felt that Sehwag might come good but never happened. Dhoni is no god to guess what is to come if you drop Sehwag for team. It might have been team India win if bowlers bowled well. I can say you that 141 is defendable total on that pitch as SA scored only in 130's in match concluded in evening. So,we should understand our strike bowler is waste. Zaheer is waste. If it would have been Pathan opening the bowling, as he is in goof form he could have bagged wickets for sure. Zaheer, Harbhajan are useless for now. That is reason India lost. No front line good bowlers, then whom should be looking at?? Well, we should throw stones on Dhoni but never realise the truth.

Hindsight is a beautiful thing...only if India had won or not lost so badly yesterday, people would have said it was a ok decision to get in Irfan. Dada stated rightly, this was a one off..I m sure Sehwag is coming back for Sunday game. I am more worried about Zaheer..He has to click to make India come good..And Rohit Sharma - God give him something...Dhoni has been guarding him like a "father"...for his sake and for Dhoni, I hope he does something good...Poor M.Tiwary!! Even though I am not sure if Tiwary is a super star too...

I guess Discussing of Sehwag's Inclusion and ommision in the team ,we should look forward for the match against Pak, and SA. There should be right playing XI , And yes Players like Sehwag, Warner, Watson , Gayle are really Gamble ...u need them in team boss.. at least 5 out of 10 times they make oppositions imposible..Sehwag should be back ! :)

Since 2007 World Cup Final, India has failed to win a single Super 8 Match. That is 5 years without a win. How pathetic is that, imagine if they lose against South Africa and Pakistan, it would be until 2014 (since thats when the next T20 World Cup is). That's 7 years without a win, would be a world record

manoj tiwary and sehwag are left out in crucial matches.dhoni's dictatorial mindset driving india into doom.if we exit from wct20 on sunday then it must be the final alarm for dhoni.what else can we expect from a captain like dhoni who has not changed despite 0-8 loss.

Posted by   on (September 29, 2012, 6:16 GMT)

I think its good India got a wakeup call...This will help them train hard to face Pakistan on Sunday...As far as Rohit Sharma is concerned he does play well(Only when the whole team is playing well) or if its a weaker opponent he is no VVS Laxman who could face the challenges of pressure!

Posted by   on (September 29, 2012, 6:14 GMT)

Five specialist bowlers huh?? THen Kohli, Rohit Sharma, and Yuvraj bowled, and Yuvraj was the one who took the only wicket. Why play five bowlers if you don't use them properly? Sehwag back is a MUST, if he doesn't, then strip dhoni of the captaincy and drop him from the team.

Posted by Aksallways on (September 29, 2012, 6:12 GMT)

We won against England not much due to the fiery spin bowling but thanks to their poor batting performance. Now against Aussies the bowling was much same to like against the English ones the batters were taking them as light as feather. This is going to be the future results if dhoni wont give up his stubborn thinking against the other seniors as a indian fan one can do nothing as we know the best guys are the ones always warming the bench the thing that are usual changes like 1> what dhoni thinks is piyush chawla or even rohit sharma are preferred one as compared to sehwag???? 2> Now if with five bowler then too you are using the part timers what's the mean to play these bowlers 3> Dhoni please improve your keeping and batting as you are good captain thats the only thing why you are in the team 4> Now for the selectors how can piyush chawla make to team ahead of amit mishra, rahul sharma and even pragyan ojha

Posted by DineshBajaj on (September 29, 2012, 5:59 GMT)

Why everyone is making hue and cry over Sehwag's omission? What difference he would have made to the outcome of the match given his woeful current form? Why not instead debate the performance of the players who played? Why Dhoni, Raina, Gambhir, Yuvraj be not ousted from the team given their abysmal scoring rate (100-120)? Their crime (of slow scoring rate) is compounded by the fact that they are not really making any genuine effort to push up the scoring rate.

India must adhere to the policy of playing 5 specialist bowlers as hoarding batsmen in the team won't server any purpose. Chawla must be ousted and Balaji be drafted in.

Posted by TiTAN000 on (September 29, 2012, 5:59 GMT)

I think to drop Sehwag has been a due, in my eyes without performance no one should be a must. But the point is also similar to Dhoni, his pet Raina and Chawla .

I do get wondered to see Rahane out of the side and the blunder has been to send Irfan as an opener, Rohit might have been a better choice as he is more comfortable in short deliveries.

On the other hand Yuvraj is a better option than Chawla may be than Ashwin. To pick five bowlers would have been a right choice, if they have had minimum quality.

Posted by   on (September 29, 2012, 5:55 GMT)

MSD is shuffling players as always, one of his main tactic and he will go with weakness of opposition as Aus might struggle with spin bowling. Do not surprise, if india will not going through super eight. Please make a decision on Gautam Gambhir as India's new immerging captain. He also won last IPL for KKR and have ability of leadership.

team selection is at fault in ist place.5 player in 11 donot deserve to be picked even in 15men squad.chawla no showing in any ranji or in this yr ipl.rohit out of form for 2yr,getting run in 1 match doesnt mean he is in form, yuvrj has been on bed fighting cancer for 1 yrnot match fit,has not played single domestics before selction what hurry toselct him not mtch fit, harbhjan pls see his perfomance in all domestic after his expultion frm team..very very poor, jaheer khan..never a good t20 bowler just look at his record in allt20 or even in all ipl

Posted by   on (September 29, 2012, 5:52 GMT)

After a long time I admired Dhoni's decision ,but it got backfired. What I saw y'day was it affected Gambir's game by not playing Viru.On such slow wickets Gambhir is the best player and he started by playing so.But he tried to take a non-existing single. This was triggered by few dot deliveries which Irfan played. You can't expect a non-batsman like Irfan to play as opener. With Viru ,Gambhir looks a different player while running. To me game didn't get any momentum once Gambhir was dismissed. Not selecting Rahane is a big mistake.Yuvi's form is also not helping India.T20 is not a platform to return after such a long break.

well so called captain cool played with five bowlers, still he had to make kohli bowl. only wicket was taken by yuvraj. and above all he thiks that pathan can take sehwags place. even when sehwag is out of form he cn hit 32 runs in 12 balls. ONLY THING THAT DHONI IS TRYING TO DO IS TO MAKE SENIORS LIKE SEHWAG AND GAMBHIR feel underconfident so that HE CAN SURVIVE

Dhoni is the best captain so far but it seems he now became overconfident about his hitting capability in the death overs. he plays too slowly.. I LOVE SEHWAG'S BATTING, he must bi in 11.

Posted by Muddasir07 on (September 29, 2012, 5:35 GMT)

now times.....dhoni is a waste captain for Indian Team. May be fit for CSK but not for Indian Team. So, CCshould change captain to SHEWAG. We hope Shewag will make best result.

IT SEEMS THAT DHONI IS THE DEAD HORSE. He was the only individual who was responsible for the loss against New Zealand,

Posted by   on (September 29, 2012, 5:31 GMT)

I'd have had sehwag in and sharma\ raina out to accomodate 5 bowlers. Its just dhoni's personal rivalry\rift to let sehwag sit out. after all dhoni is a human being :)

In T20's you should send your 2 best batsmen as openers....What is the meaning in sending pathan as opener who is not even a complete batsmen!!!!!

Posted by   on (September 29, 2012, 5:26 GMT)

I still feel MSD did right thing by dropping Sehwag as the Nawab is woefully out of form and poor fitness. Only things MSD could have done was make Rohit open the innings, Start with Irfan in bowling and play Balaji in place of Chawla. Infact I would not mind to see Manoj Tiwary get a game in place of Chawla. If not better he does as well as Chawla but brings extra zeel in fielding and also add cushion with his Batting.

Posted by Pathiyal on (September 29, 2012, 5:24 GMT)

agree with Gavaskar when he said the exclusion of sehwag affected gambhir's performance. the overall performance of team India yesterday was pathetic to say the least. MSD blaming on the weather was hilarious though.

Dhoni is not the gud captain Sehwag is the main part of the game if shewag is not playing u would not win even one match

Posted by MrCrane on (September 29, 2012, 5:23 GMT)

Pathetic Dhoni should be sacked as the captain and should be dropped. He does not deserve a place in the team. But Alas there is no spare Wicket Keeper in the team. This defeat is a big rotten egg on his face. India has lost many matches due to his uninspiring captaincy and mind numbing team selection. How on earth Pathan as opener is a better option than Sehwag.

Poor Indian Captain need to learn a lot from his competitor captain in tomorrow match vs pak,

Posted by   on (September 29, 2012, 5:18 GMT)

We lost poorly last t20 wc, because of dhoni decision to play rohit as opener. he should sit and shewag should play other players. i know its not possible. we lost many t20 matches bcz of dhoni. Dhoni please play only in ground dont play for watching 100 cores of indian fans.big big mistake. 3 spinners + yuvraj + raina + rohit? stupid idea mr. dhoni.

Posted by mohanan on (September 29, 2012, 5:11 GMT)

I think Dhoni's decision to include 5 full-time bowlers was correct, but it should not have been at the expense of Sehwag. India lost because of the rain. But, they could have bowled better. The main bowlers didn't bowl in the right areas (probably because they were jolted by the hitting of Warner and Watson). Even the part-timers bowled better. India will definitely come back from this. But, they still can improve in certain areas (Handling pressure, adapting to changes in playing conditions, etc).

Posted by rajeshkamatanam on (September 29, 2012, 5:08 GMT)

five bowlers is not that bad a plan one thing they can do is drop rohit and bring sehwag and play irfan at no 7 only...irfan played well to his ability but asking him to open reduced our chances...every country has strong set of specialist openers and with irfan at top we wont have one...also gambhir and irfan both being left handers doesnt help our cause even further....ashwin is a capable no 8 so its more effective to use irfan at 7 ashwin at 8 and bhajji at 9...its better to have more bowling options because for us most of the bowlers are looking like having an off day....raina coming at no 6 is not good he can be promoted to no 4 and yuvi at no 5 on form...then we will do well

Posted by   on (September 29, 2012, 5:08 GMT)

We all were happy about the result of the previous match vs England and almost the same players played. Even i didnt like the way Indians Batted. PP was good we were 50/1 which was a good score, but the middle order let us down. Beware Indian players we are again verge of entering into one player dependent team. Virat failed yesterday and the rest of the batsmen went for almost nothing, and we lost the match. Bowling was terrible, Balaji and Dinda should have been there. Sewhag should have been played, even though he scores 20 to 30 runs he scores them very quickly to make sure the start of the match is good. Run our of Gambhir was needless. Time for elders like Zaheer to depart from the short format and play test matches. Two more matches am sure India will find good combination and they will win those matches. God be with them.

I think MSD has run out of luck. Poor captaincy and I think he should retire from all forms of the game now or at least wakes up from the dream he is in... To drop a player of the calibre of Virendra Sehwag was an UTTERLY STUPID decision.

Of course people were criticizing MSD for not playing 5 bowlers but nobody asked him to drop Sehwag to play the 5th bowler. Rohit Sharma is the one who should get the kick on his butt since Rohit Sharma is the one who is the MOST INCONSISTENT and HIGHLY UNPREDICTABLE batsman in the side and not Sehwag. He's only best suited for IPL not to play for India.

And why was Piyush Chawla picked ahead of Rahul Sharma all of a sudden? Irfan Pathan went for plenty even in the warm up game against Pakistan and does not merit a place in the current Indian side. Why no Umesh Yadav or Ishant Sharma for a tournament as big as the T20 World Cup?

What has Yuvraj Singh done so far after returning to International Cricket? Why was he pushed into the ring so early?

@ maddy sachin... He left out sehwag to play 5 bowlers. then what was Nohit Sharma doing there. Even if ashwin had played 80-90 matches at his no. 4 position then , even he could have turned out to be a great batsman. An all those people who will say that he made 50 in last match--- 1.) it was a batting pitch 2.)anyone including dhoni, raina or yuvi could have scored a 50 3.) england didn't lose due to Nohit sharma's 50 but due to spin.

No ROHIT SHARMA, Play Manoj Tiwary .

rubbies its not backlash after defeat but frm the warm up mathces ur adjusting line up 5 bowlers n 6 batsman at the stage of super 8 ur still making changes and u r not taking Sehwag in team against Australia step down yaar u have made us not interest in this WC its better that we Support other Asian team wish them to win WC no hope for India this is not beck step but every time we r going throu this type of situation its like " Clifhanger " position, prayers and some spiritual activities ppl doing when u go for big event and ur still experiment pls come out quickly in the knock out stage so we can attend other team very peacefully, Mr. Dhoni i was ur big fan but now its far frm hurry up say good bye to captancy.

Posted by KevinBangalore on (September 29, 2012, 4:46 GMT)

It is time to think beyond Dhoni for India. Kohli is a better option. He is very consistent and captained India 19.

Posted by KevinBangalore on (September 29, 2012, 4:43 GMT)

In my opinion, dropping of Sehwag is totally unjustified..He is an impact player just like David warner for Australia. We want him to set the momentum for the indian innings..quick 25 or 30 do for us.

There is no point in moving Irfan up because he can't set the initial momentum for the innings. 31 ball 30 is not good enough. Bad team selection by Dhoni. Why do we need 3 specialist spinners when part timers can contribute? Dhoni should repent his decisions.

Posted by   on (September 29, 2012, 4:42 GMT)

Dhoni was fortunate to have a good team. Highly overrated as a captain. he does not have the capacity to make a team. Difficult for him to get up when the chips are down. He will not be able to make a world beating side. Better to give someone else a chance.

Yesterday wasnt India's day.Now forget about this and start thinking for the next game.my team would be -Sehwag,Gambhir,Kohli,Raina,Yuvraj,Tiwary,Dhoni,Pathan,Ashwin,Harbhajan, Balaji.let Yuvraj and Tiwary bowl as well depends on situation.dont need to panic.dont forget Tiwary got 4 wickets in the srilanka series in his first game.bhajji n ashwin can bowl 4 overs each.and they need to smash first 6 overs.india is pretty slow in these overs if we get good start.we can make a good target.Good luck team India!!!!!

Sehwag should never be dropped unless he is hurt... I don't care if you don't get along with him Dhoni.. You can never win without him just accept it and put him on the team

Posted by   on (September 29, 2012, 4:35 GMT)

MSD is a big liability in an INDIAN Team... 1st he have not included Sehwag, Then Not giving new ball to PATHAN who is has been pick of the bowlers in Srilanka & T20 so far & 3rd he scored 21 balls 15 runs out of which 15 DOT Balls... 15 DOT Balls in a T20 match is crime... He struggles to take single & wow he is our captain... BIG LIABILITY...

Sacked Dhoni from T20 and include Utthappa as a wicket keeper.

Posted by Pavanakumara on (September 29, 2012, 4:34 GMT)

Viru is regular opener for Ind n final XI player always. How can dey treated him lyk dat? Rohit wud b d better choice to left out if u want to play 5 bowlers. Cos, Viru is best than Rohit in both Bat n Bwl. Disz a wors choice by our team. 1 more point - picking leg spinner is always lottery. Remember, it wont payoff most of d times.

Batting 1st is also wrong decision by MSD after winning d important toss. Cos, if there is any rain, den chasing is better option. Dis is proved yesterday n even MSD committed dis while talking to Sanjay in post match presentation.

Overall, very poor thinking by MSD n bad bowlng by Aswin n Bajji in their 1st spells costed a huge defeat. Zak n Irfan wud hav shared d new ball n 2 overs each.

Posted by   on (September 29, 2012, 4:29 GMT)

I think this is a very bad decission made by dhoni not only after defeating the match but also before that.may Viru 's form is not good right now but still he is greate hitter of the ball..and in T20 if you are putting him out then it's a bad luck for india.and the specialist player chawala who has not played for long time he is coming inside in a crucial match. again it's a bad luck for india.I will say-"Dhoni your decission is not going well enough".

Posted by   on (September 29, 2012, 4:26 GMT)

Though I am a SL fan, I always like Dhoni for his leadership and decision making skills. People who ever scolding dhoni, please look backwards a bit, how many matches India have won because of him, how many cups he got it for India using this decision makings, just look the statistics people. His decision to play 5 bowlers is simply perfect, but yesterday it didnt work because of the wet field (50%) , the the bowlers didnt deliver what he expected (50%). So stop blaming a great captain. Cricinfo, please publish this.

Awayca Eflyer , IF MSD IS GR8 CAPTAIN EVEN THEN HE CAN NOT SIT OUT WORLDS GREATEST PLAYER (SEHWAG) AND U TELL IF MURLIDHARAN GO FOR SOME RUNS IN A PARTICULAR MATCH WOULD ANY CAPTAIN CAN THINK OF SITTING HIM OUT OF THE NEXT MATCH

REMEMBER SOME PLAYERS ARE UNIQUE THEY CAN NOT BE REPLACED BY ANYONE AND SEHWAG IS ONE OF THEM

Posted by   on (September 29, 2012, 4:13 GMT)

sehwag is a kind of batsman to score quick 30 odd runs ,i.e enough for india.bring sehwag for next matches and give some hope for india.

Posted by   on (September 29, 2012, 4:13 GMT)

after losing to ausies . i think india need to play 22 players at once 11 for batting and 11 for bowling...... if that dosent work then extra 11 for fielding

Posted by   on (September 29, 2012, 4:03 GMT)

Now a days thinking some thing which is not having any logic at all. In subcontinent pitches if some one want to play with five specialist bowler he will be either idiot otherwise he may doing intentionally. MSD targeting Viru that is very clear. In Australia he stared talking about rotation policy he kept Jadeja and he also played a match without bowling a single in one match as well. Another wonderful decision is continuing with Rohit even though he is not performing he scored just 13 runs in his five outings against SL. What happened to Rahul Sharma and why he is preferring Piyush and why he is not considering Rahane, Rayudu and Pathan for selection. Why he is not giving enough chance to Manoj who always performing even his limited chances. MSD lost his cricket instincts let him drop himself to provide a chance to some one else who really thinking about the development of Indian cricket

Posted by AvidCricFan on (September 29, 2012, 4:02 GMT)

Shewag doesn't have the teeth as he used to have. He is primarily a hand/eye coordination player with very little footwork. There are two factors that puts him at disadvantage, one is his age and the second is his weaknesses are being exploited by good bowlers all over the world. I am totally with Dhoni's decision. However, the replacements are not up to mark. We simply don't have quality bowlers. I don't know why the selectors are persisting with Bhajji, Chawla, Zaheer Khan. They are not crucial match winners any more.

Posted by   on (September 29, 2012, 4:00 GMT)

MR Dhoni You should Play with 10 Bowlers& Ur self for the next match...can you come as opener with irfan pathan...both of you having most strike rate than any other batsman in the world...including piyush chawla and sehwag out...what a stupid decision....mr cunning

Why din we let Mr. Gavaskar select the team, players who never play T20 giving opinions to ICC team's captain.

Posted by   on (September 29, 2012, 3:52 GMT)

Umesh Yadav and Ajinkya Rahane and may be Rahul Sharma in place of Piyush Chawla should be in the squad, Sehwag's body language does not inspire confidence, he should stick to Test cricket, thats his calling, when India won in 2007 it was due to youngsters, Zak's time in limited overs is over.Kohli should be handed the captaincy of T20 to ease him in the role, Dhoni would do well to realise no one can replace Dravid as he is trying to do these days with his batting!

Posted by   on (September 29, 2012, 3:50 GMT)

Enough is enough.....you cannot break the combination. As par previous statergy by every team

1. when team is wining you can not break the combination and mostly go with the same combination. in this case why this Balaji is not in? Chawla he is not at all fit for international player :). He is a over bourdan for the team. i did not find in any match of his excellence. 2. Dhoni has big favor of Rohit sharma, Aswin and Raina. what was going on exactly Dhonis mind i am not sure ... Opening with Aswin.... you must be kidding or joking. As always seniors said and full proffed you can not do much testing on T20 cricket. Yes Rohit is class cricketer. But I mostly see him out as a Bowled!!!!!!!! that also in classic style... Its time to trust on full proff bowlers..like Yuvi, Harbhajan, some extend balaji......*******most imptant****** I donot find any reason why Balaji was dropped when he is in good form.....Now BCCI can come in between to put some pressre on Dhoni or change him to Gauti.

Posted by Jose on (September 29, 2012, 3:41 GMT)

Sehwag's form has been hitting badly due to rift that started between Dhoni & Sehwag since Australia tour. Infact, Dhoni had similar tussle with other seniors like Ganguly, Laxman and Dravid. Laxman did not even invite MSD for his farewell party. Now all the senior are gone (except Sachin), there is no moral support for Sehwag. MSD is playing all his cheap tactics to get Viru out of the team.

Posted by   on (September 29, 2012, 3:39 GMT)

Earlier I have criticized dhoni for giving more chances to harbhajan before removing him last year. Even though sehwag is not as bad as harbhajan was, but i dont see why i should criticize dhoni's move.

Posted by   on (September 29, 2012, 3:37 GMT)

@eflyer sreelanka had aplayer named ranatunga . he was utter worst in fielding but we indians still remember his names. he had some other special skills like what Sehwag has. Sehwag is the most destructive player in indian side . if he can bat for 7 overs thats enough.

Posted by baba6660 on (September 29, 2012, 3:24 GMT)

Dhoni seems to be unsure about the lineup and batting order. Making senior and champion players like Sehwag and Zaheer Khan Sit on the bench doesn't really help the team morale. We should also start looking at the role being played by Mr. Fletcher as the coach. Sufficient insecurity seems to be haunting the side.

Posted by basusri133b on (September 29, 2012, 3:23 GMT)

Our batsmen have difficulty against the short pitched ball, and pace bowling. Even on a sub continent wicket this weakness is glaring. There is no short term solution to this problem. We have never addressed this deficiency.

Our current bowling attack is toothless. We need bowlers who cannot bowl close to the 140 km mark. Chawla was never properly groomed. His career has been ruined.

Yuvraj is not fit as yet to resume playing at this level. Our middle order batsmen like Raina & Sharma in spite of numerous chances have not performed.

R. Ashwin should go in higher up in the batting order, he may potentially end up being a good middle order batsmen.

Lastly, we should have blooded a few of our under 19 stars.

Based on our current form, we will not win this tournament.

Lack of a coherent selection policy and failure to develop the game has put us in this situation.

Posted by   on (September 29, 2012, 3:18 GMT)

I saw yesterday's match on TV and the only mistake from Dhoni was not to walk away saying conditions like the outfield where not good enough. The outfield and infield were slippery all the way, even good fileders like Raina, Rohit and I saw Pathan on the outfield slip. How are players expected to turn out with confidence if they don even have sure footing.. I blame the officials for this result, bcoz Zak was denied two LBW decisions in the beginning and the match officials were unmindful of the match situations like the outfield. The broadcaster simply choose to ignore the Wet outfield as a factor at all and the commentators where simply admiring how good a hitter Watson is. Any international player can hit a handicapped bowling unit. How is Dhoni expected to prepare for a wet outfield after all. If India had to crash out bcoz of this match, I don understand what rationale we as fans are to expect out of such a biased Tournament.

Ok here is something that really applies here.

In a transportation company, crabs were being transported from India to the rest of the world in ships. A new worker to his shock discovered that there were no lids to the barrels in which the crabs were being exported, and reported it to his senior immediately. The senior laughed it off and said, do not worry my friend, these are Indian crabs. As soon as one tries to get out the rest pull him down.

Dhoni, in this case is the crab trying to do different things and get India out of its rut, but all these crabs around him including Gavasker, who wouldn't last a season in he current era with the boring game style and defensive mindset will bring him down.

looking to form why not gambhir, yuvraj, rohit or even dhoni himself was dropped.what he has done if he has played 30 balls of pathan!nobody is better than sehwag in any form of cricket.he has 2 300 in tests,200 in odi and dhoni is asking more of him.Its time to say good buy to dhoni and new selectors will think about that.

guys ..stop blaming dhoni it was a very good decision to drop sehwag in that kind of pitch conditions , who knows that rain gonna shatter india's chances ..but as india's winning chances right from the beginning depended on their batting in any format they need to improve their batting a lot , bring back sehwag and play with 4 bowlers INDIA CAN'T WIN WITHOUT BATSMEN DOING WELL

Posted by PTtheAxis on (September 29, 2012, 3:12 GMT)

yes anyone can be omitted except dhoni even if he cannot score even run a ball in T20 ... only india can allow this kind of madness to go on

Posted by   on (September 29, 2012, 3:11 GMT)

I dont think abscence of sehwag has any impact on indian batting. india had a very decent score which was defendable but Dhonis decision of opening with R Ashwin was the mistake. He should have given new ball to irfan pathan who was effective against england and started well. same damage he would have done here also and from there spinners would have taken india towards victory. this was the only mistake I feel Dhoni made against Australia.

I liked the strategy of MS Dhoni and selectors. No backup wicketkeeper in the squad so we cannot say that "Dhoni you are not good for T20, please leave." As we have no wicketkeeper in our squad.

Posted by   on (September 29, 2012, 2:57 GMT)

Team India is only made of political pressures.. Why is chawla picked for T20. WHy do they pick Murali vijay, ashwin only bcoz of TN politics & the political broker srikanth. WHy do they pick Rohit sharma & Raina even after so many failures, coz they r dhoni friends and they should be in the team to praise him.... Bring on Sehwag, Yousuf Pathan..... Dhoni has become a politician ratrher than a captain. He is becoming a Ganguly, pain in indian cricket team. He will face the same fate as ganguly.jus like ganguly spoiled indian cricket team, so is dhoni.. Dhoni will loose captaincy n place also very soon....

If we gave Yousf pathan as many chances as ginven to rohit then there was no need to play three spinners in team and one more thing i want to discuss that yousf pathan is most dangerous batsman like situations in Sri lanka against the spinners.

This was not a good move, My question is y Dhoni is in T20 team?? his strike rate(108) is even less than Ashwin and Irfan, its folly to drop the person like sehwag in such an important game . I think Dhoni should quit T20.

pathetic decision to drop sehwag in a crunch match, playing chawla was pure stupidity.playing pathan as a opener was really poor.

If I was Dhoni then I would drop Gautam Gambhir. He has been in a poor form as well. Sehwag can at least contribute through bowling if needed. Being an Indian and a fan of the Indian team, its sad to see how Dhoni's arrogance is ruining a good player like Sehwag. My question is What is Rohit Sharma still doing in the Indian team????? And you omit Sehwag while giving players like Rohit Sharma repeated chances after repeated failures??? Sehwag brings a sense of security to the Indian team and when we, the fans, love to see him bat every time.

Posted by   on (September 29, 2012, 1:34 GMT)

IMO, Sehwag should replace chawla in the next game. Worst comes worst, we can use him as a off spinner if not more. Stop bashing Irfan, his strike rate was about 104. Given how many chances the guy gets to play in the team (let alone open the innings) its commendable. Irfan should feature regularly in the ODI setup, perhaps as an accumulator in the middle order who can hold one end with a strike rate of 100 or in a pinch hitting role (hes a very clean hitter, not a yuvraj but good enough). While no shane Watson or Gary sobers, India have a decent all rounder in him, and imho he should be nurtured. for those who think Sehwag would have made a difference, stop dreaming. On his day, hes amazing but the score card could have been 2-1 had he played. he is too inconsistent and too irresponsible to ignore the match situation. feels horrible because he is such a great player.

For me dhoni is not a good captain in T20 and Test. He is very good in 50 overs with 100 strike rate batting and lucky captaincy. He is very poor in T20 because his strike rate is 100 and he can't accelerate if opposition has real fast bowler bowling off side. He has weakness like everyone else but he is not good in T20. Time to drop dhoni and put kohli as captain.Even raina as captain is better than useless dhoni.

HHmmmm India is in trouble for a moment. They Lost Big and A another BIGGEST contest is on the corner. Pakistan Vs India. After that they had to face Wounded SOUTH AFRICA who will give their every thing to win the match PLUS they had PLUS PLUS point in the form of GARY KERSTIN. He is well aware of Indian WEAKNESS. I am seeing very Hard time ahead of India. Pakistan luckily servive in the first match. Less pressure on Pakistan for PAK Vs IN match. But when Pakistan India comes against each other. They become equal weighted teams. Will be a real Crunch match. T20 Cricket is going at their Best!

It was a gamble which failed miserably!!but why single out Sehwag for such experiment. What is the contribution of Gambhir after IPL as opening batsman. What is the big contribution by Sharma. Has Yuvaraj completely recovered for such strainful events. Now in the bowling department barring Ashwin all are below par. Harbhajan's one particular innings success cannot qualify a place . Viru himself could have filled up the requirement for 5th bowler. It is about time hard decision is taken on Zaheer !!! Poor gamble failed badly

Posted by MikR on (September 29, 2012, 0:58 GMT)

I don't understand why Dhoni came in at 7. A captain should never come in at 7 especially in T20 cricket. He needed to control the game earlier. The best position for him is 5 or max 6. The line up should be Gambhir, Sehwag, Kohli, Rohit, Yuvraj, Dhoni, Raina, Pathan, Ashwin, Harbajan and Zaheer

Posted by   on (September 29, 2012, 0:53 GMT)

the worst time started for dhoni,i think dhoni made a big mistake by omitting a great player like VIRU who is a game changer and VIRU batting just for six overs can boost off the score and can gain confidene for the team.its the right time to drop dhoni form his responsibility as caption

Posted by   on (September 29, 2012, 0:26 GMT)

I don't see Sehwag could have changed game mode. India is lucky to have skipper like Dhoni but for T20 perhaps India should think about Kohli or Raina. India's chronic illness is weak bowling and today Australia ripped apart India's bowling order. Thanks to Shane Watson to offer his wicket!! India desperately needs to improve in bowlling..

Posted by   on (September 29, 2012, 0:13 GMT)

As of now, Australia, South Africa (despite their loss to Pak), Pakistan & West Indies seem to be the front runners for the semis. Beyond that, it is any one's guess.

WEST INDIES TAKING THIS TITLE!!! HAHAHAHAA

Posted by spinkingKK on (September 28, 2012, 23:51 GMT)

Sehwag hasn't scored a century or double century in a T20 for a while. So, a quick 20 or 25 is no good for Dhoni. He wants someone who can score a century by facing all the balls and get a total of about 125 in 20 overs!! Dhoni is the guy who got to go. Time and time again, he just plays like test match in an ODI and T20's. His slow batting was one reason why India lost yesterday. By the way, why on earth Tiwary getting such a treatment from the captain?

Posted by   on (September 28, 2012, 23:46 GMT)

A stupid MSD decision. He should have opened bowling with Irfan and Zaheer. Irfan has always struck with the new bowl. So I think 140 could have been defended had India taken few wickets at the top.

Also 3 specoalist spinners is not good and that too at the expense of sehwag.

Posted by   on (September 28, 2012, 23:42 GMT)

if the spinners worked against England does not mean that policy is going to work against Australia. Hopeless Dhoni canot Captain team Cannot bat..India needed Sehwag to have that cushion. Hopeless Dhoni.. QUIT now it is the right time.

Posted by DaBearsRock on (September 28, 2012, 23:18 GMT)

Dhoni.. I don't care what excuse you have to give... Sehwag has earned it to play for India. After Sachin and Sourabh .. I admire Sehwag. I don't care if you don't get along with him, but he has to play for India and you will never win without him. So grow a pair and don't leave Sehwag out again.

Posted by   on (September 28, 2012, 23:12 GMT)

Bigger problem is India not having fast bowlers. They have pathetic fast bowlers. While Pakistan can constantly produce fast bowlers, India can not. Till they can produce fast bowlers it is going to be a big problem going forward.

Posted by   on (September 28, 2012, 23:04 GMT)

India were trying to pull the spin attack! It takes bowlers like saeed ajmal to call it a spin attack. A bowler that can take a wicket even after getting hit for six. And its called Pak spin attack for a reason! Good Luck India in future ames

i told you so. Dhoni can have 10 medocre bowlers in the side still aus would have won by 9 wickets and 5 overs to spare. at least now dhoni and selectors and coach can learn that 5 bowlers is a recipe for dsaster lke ths. Please please don't make this mistake again. india needs better bowlers and not more of the same bowlers. you can not drop sehwag in crucial matches like this one and take chowla on one single performance agaist hapless englsh batsmen who couldn't play spin

Posted by   on (September 28, 2012, 22:25 GMT)

This is ridiculous. There usually are so many ppl calling for Sehwag's head and now only one supports Dhoni? What has Sehwag done lately? I am pretty sure his contribution would have been less than Pathan's and he is a liability in the field.

Posted by md4cric on (September 28, 2012, 22:24 GMT)

Yes Sehwag is explosive and carries FEAR with him when he walks in with Bat.Perhpas the most entertaining cricketer in India for last 10 tears(After Ajay Jadeja) but captain needs to shift the balance based on opposition-pitch and individual's performance. Viru's avg has not been good( Way below average) so a youg pair of legs could be helpful with agile team as AUSSIES. Let Dhoni make some decisions rather than "Being Expert" Who likes to loose? Go Dhoni--Viru should be back soon

Dropping Virender Sehwag in Such a Crucial Match was not a Good Decision but the same time players are lose their wicket in regular interval and bowling very bad also some umpire decision are goes Aus side. 20 or 25 run short in score board .

Posted by Balb on (September 28, 2012, 22:09 GMT)

I do not agree with Dhoni's decision. I am in favour with what Gavaskar said.

If Dhoni went for three specialist spin bpwlers who can bat along with two seamers then how come he used eight bowlers?

Dhoni very well and knows Shewag and Ghambir is a good opening pair in any match any condition. Shewag can also bowl spin. Come on Dhoni wake up, swallow your pride or what ever and take some advice at times.

Posted by   on (September 28, 2012, 21:58 GMT)

Shewag is the good alrounder to have in team if you know how to use him. All of the indian captains including Dhoni they have not use Shewag full strange in any format of the game. Except Kumble he knew how to use Shewag. Look at the Test matches Shewag had been bowing and bating.

Posted by azzy.dubai on (September 28, 2012, 21:53 GMT)

Instead of dropping Sehwag Dhoni could have dropped Rohit if he wanted to play an extra spinner, he was unable to stroke the ball, instead of wasting those balls he could have easily rotated the strike to Raina who was standinf on the other end waiting for his turn.

Irfan is a good swing bowler mainly with new ball, but she experimented Ashwin who bowls well wen the ball is little old.

All experiments fail which cost India a bad defeat. now its big pressure while playing against Pakistan.

PATHAN IS A GOOD PLAYER BUT SEHWAG IN INDIA'S # 1 OPENING BATSMAN. IF HE SCORE 30 RUNS IN THIS FORMAT IT WILL BE FROM 15 BALLS. THIS IS WHAT IS NEEDED. WATSON,WARNER,GAYLE,KEISWETTER, DILCHAND,GUL GUPTIL, SEHWAG,RAINA,YUVRAJ AND THE REST ALL UNDERSTAND THAT IT IS NEEDED. EVEN WI CHARLES CARRY HIS BAT FULL OF EDGES TO SCORE BIG. INDIA WIT 9 BATSMEN SCORE 140 RUNS WITH PATHAN TOP SCORE BATTING AT #1 ?? WHAT A SHAME TO INDIA. WITHOUT CONSISTANT BOWLERS, THERE ARE 4 BOWLERS WITH 4 SPARES TO BOWL 6 OVERS BUT YOU HAVE TO KNOW HOW TO USE THEM. CHAWLA IS NOT THE PERSON FOR THIS FORMAT ? Tired of MSD tactics. Just have 2 simple questions. 1) why 3 spinners in T20 match when you have Yuvaraj 2) Why Pathan didn't bowl when the ball is New. Remember the Eng. match after those 2 early Pathan strikes then spinners got ahead of ENG batsman.

Posted by kc69 on (September 28, 2012, 21:01 GMT)

I guess India need to create a Saperate team for T20 format.

Posted by Laksh050488 on (September 28, 2012, 20:57 GMT)

Guys all in this forum - I was just thinking, If this decision of MSD would have worked out... wat comments you all would have posted. In India we have this attitude of criticising sportspersons for their one-off mistakes or performance.. Am not only a fan of MSD but as well a very big fan of Sehwag, even I was very much disappointed when sehwag was not in the playing 11... This is just the 1st match- lets hope there are no such politics in our team, not really sure how big media is going blow these issues up and create even more conflicts.... MSD is just not lucky, his captaincy skills and to perform under pressure is really something which no other captain has. This again looks to me like World cup 2011-- we will have Sehwag this time as a trump card who will change the forcoming matches and MSD regain his form as the tournament progresses ' peaking at the right time'..

Posted by VickGower on (September 28, 2012, 20:53 GMT)

In his international T20 career Sehwag fails to hit double figures roughly HALF THE TIME - think about that! And has scored over 50 only twice. In total he has gone beyond 30s ONLY 4 times! Compare that to a David Warner who may have played twice as many innings as Sehwag, but in that has scored over 50 7 times; and hit 30s, 15 times!

Posted by   on (September 28, 2012, 20:47 GMT)

As soon as I read of Sehwag being dropped, I put a post on cricinfo that MSD is going to regret. It is out there under the news of his dropping. Unfortunately MSD is not regretting, that means he will continue mistakes like that, and Indians can kiss the cup good bye.

i dont understand why every one critising dhoni on omision of sehwag nd chawla inclusion....its totaly rediculus..as a pakistani i must say dhoni is one of best best captian in the world in recent time...i loved his decion the way he changs bowling or put right feilder on right postion....when india beat england that time bhaji nd chawla thrashed england batting so where was these critisizers...its very easy to critisize on any one but who play in the field who knows very well...i think every indiaz should sport dhoni and his desions..he win 2 WC for his country...that is enogh for these critisizer...........

Posted by   on (September 28, 2012, 20:45 GMT)

This is why I hate Dhoni's captaincy.I did not understand why he left Sehwag this time again! As it was conspicuous he and eventually the team had to pay the price by receivng defeat as they cannot build a strong total against Aussies! I know it is a gamble to say had the Sehwag stayed in the team, it may hav added few more runs to the socreboard, I still standby with Sehwag's inclusion in the team. I just can't afford to see the way Dhoni handles and manipulates our senior cricket players. He is a very shrewd and political captain, I must say!

Posted by nauman899 on (September 28, 2012, 20:36 GMT)

I am surprise that in such big event, why indian team is not selected well. Why Yuvraj is kept carryout in big matches without good performance.Wat's wrong with Tiwary, y not included instead of yuvraj. yuvraj is as weak point to opposition. Where is Rahane and Badrinat ??? One more critical thing, why Raina is placed at no.6 in all other events he always batted at no.4 and why yuvraj given no.4 even his bad output/performance. No think-mind by BCCI. This defeat is deserving lesson for them to think as per logic and talent.

Posted by   on (September 28, 2012, 20:35 GMT)

MSD should evaluate his own performance. Does he really merit a berth in this t20 side for India ? Shoddy keeping and poor batting from the skipper. Rather uthappa should play as keeper bat. He's a Much better bet

Posted by vgkrishnas on (September 28, 2012, 20:34 GMT)

now dhoni can play with 10 bowlers

Posted by Alexk400 on (September 28, 2012, 20:32 GMT)

You don't drop your best strike rate player sehwag and it was stupid move. Lets see this logic. 20 overs 100% strike gets you 120 runs. 120 strike rate gets you 144. Without sehwag india is good for 140-150. Because rest of players play well against weak opposition. Dhoni is great when opposition bowler is weak. DHoni good for IPL sure not good for international T20. If i am dhoni i continue to play 5 bowlers because if it clicks his decision to omit sehwag would be a good one. he already took a mighty risk , lets continue for next game also. That would show rest of players are good or not. I always believe you can only accelerate runs only when opposition has weak bowlers in middle. To beat aussie you need shock value. India lacked that threat without sehwag. Even if sehwag out at 0 , it reduces pressure on other batsman because of sehwag presence in the team. Now all batsman exposed to opposition attack and planning. Good luck to dhoni though. he really need this time.

Posted by Jose on (September 28, 2012, 20:26 GMT)

What kind of Captain is Dhoni if he cannot justify his own decision? Can he at least justify why he played like a test player today?

Posted by   on (September 28, 2012, 20:23 GMT)

Well, opening with I-Pathan was a worst decision, he faced 30 deliveries to score his 31, remember its T20 not an ODI. I am sure everyone will support my comment that if it would be Viru to survive and face 30 deliveries then he would have put mininmum 50 on the scoreboard. A part from fact Viru is also much more good part time bowler compared to Chawla. Chawla hasn't played much cricket since 2011. A poor decision by MSD, I hope he will stop defending it and will review the decision in a big game approaching on 30th September.

Posted by   on (September 28, 2012, 20:21 GMT)

I hope they leave out Sehwag against Pakistan as well. Coming from a Pakistan fan!

Posted by ProdigyA on (September 28, 2012, 20:17 GMT)

Not a fan of Dhoni but I dont think its fair to blame him. Given the circumstance and performance against England could have influenced his decision and its not that Viru's has been prime form too. But have to agree with Sunny, Piyush just does not look intl' class. Id say its just one of those terrible days you have to put behind and move on. Hope this does not effect their confidence for furture matches. This has actually made the selection more easy now, drop Piyush and bring back Viru. Thats it, no more changes.

Posted by koolkaami on (September 28, 2012, 20:17 GMT)

I think India made a wrong decision of bowling second as their strength was batting. They should have played either Manoj Tiwari or Yousuf Pathan who could be useful in this format both with Ball and bat (far much better choices than Chawla). Too much rely on spinners could cost games to both India and Pakistan. They need good fast bowlers who can bowl yorkers.

Posted by allurikkraju on (September 28, 2012, 20:15 GMT)

Very poor decision by dhoni.yuvi, raina can bowl atleast 4 overs .So take one fastbolwer dinda. My team is Shewag, gambhir, rahane, raina, yuvi, rohit, dhoni, aswin, pathan, dinda, zaheer

Dear one and all who read this(this included former cricketers, analysists and fans). T20 succcess depends on few facts. 1. On a day, anyone can be a champion by depending on the luck and performances made that day 2. Like Rugby, muscle power and athleticism is a factor.3. Fielding is a crucial fact. 4. Mind to gamble, captains has to gamble bowlers. 5. Opening pair need to fire, and it all depends on them.

don't think dropping sehwag is such a bad decision given his current form. i don't quite agree with the 5 bowler rule. granted we had 5 bowlers today, but not 5 quality bowlers. with the exception of zaheer everyone else seems very ordinary.

Posted by   on (September 28, 2012, 19:57 GMT)

Playing "5" bowlers is not a good strategy in T20 because a bowler however good he is can only bowl 4 overs .Whereas an extra batsman will reduce the pressure on the top batsman so that they can play freely and can also add extra 20-30 runs .Second I believe that Yuvraj was India's 5th bowler so why do u need chawla

Posted by Neutral_Guy on (September 28, 2012, 19:56 GMT)

India lose one match and everybody pointing fingers at each other??? I personally feel Sehwag should have been used, but the players like Dhoni and Pathan were the stars in the recent tournaments (SL most recently) and everybody praised them, why would you judge them now on their bad luck??? Learn to lose and be humble when you win.. (A neutral Sri Lankan..)

Posted by samramsay on (September 28, 2012, 19:55 GMT)

India should go back with their original strategy of playing 7 batsmen and 4 bowlers. This has been their winning formula and the team looks more balanced that way with players exactly knowing what they are expected. I am not sure why Dhoni is experimenting so much in crunch matches, but it surely doesn't look right.

Posted by Jose on (September 28, 2012, 19:54 GMT)

Sehwag, Please show your protest by returning to India. It is inconsequential anyway as India cannot progress to Semis.

Posted by xylo on (September 28, 2012, 19:53 GMT)

It is quite obvious that it was a toss-up between Yuvraj and Sehwag. When the selectors go with a team based on emotion rather than logic, it is left to the captain to scrap the best out of what he has. How could the selection committee justify the selection of Chawla, Harbhajan, Sehwag, Yuvraj, and Zaheer other than pure emotion?

Sehwag does not bowl in T20s, and is a way bigger liability on the field than Yuvraj. With Yuvraj, Dhoni is hoping that he will hit form sooner rather than later. With Sehwag though, as one who relies on hand-eye coordination, it is no surprise that his performance is fading with age. If there is one thing that I would change, it would be to swap positions of Irfan and Rohit in the batting order.

its a good decision to drop sehwag, maybe not to play 5 bowlers, but dropping sehwag is a good decison, he lacks skills in fielding, and has been out for form for a long time. why not give ajinka rahane a chance?

Posted by   on (September 28, 2012, 19:48 GMT)

I think it was mistake on MSD part to play the spinners. It seems India thinktank like their counterparts in PAk is clueless about Warner and Watson. I guess they didn't watch any of the Pakistan and Australia matches because if they had they would have known the Warner and Watson. They were not good in early matches but they were very comfortable with Pakistan spinners and were hitting them for sixes so they had the best preparation of any other team to play spinners. Indian spinners are not in the same class as Pakistan Ajmal, Afrdi and Hafeez. England had played well against Pakistan but that was long ago hence they struggled against India. It was very disappointing to see a one sided match I had hoped that India and Pakistan would have two points each when they meet on Sunday. Also no plan for bowling to Watson and Warner. India was pathetic in every department coaching captaincy and play. MSD was supposed to be the smartest captain...he needs Gary I guess. Go Fletcher.

I think Sehwag gives the Indian team the "Invincible" feeling. Even when he makes a quick 30-40, it gives the team a big boost. Sehwag is the X factor in the team. He is the Horse for all courses. You just cant leave this gifted batsman out of any game. Big mistake.

ha ha..all that a player needs to do to win public sympathy is to get dropped...anyone seen how erratic and unreliable sehwag has been of late? why does dhoni even have to justify dropping him is beyond me; gavaskar is right- there is a fear factor associated with sehwag..same as with afridi..it lasts for 3 balls...in which time the player comes to the crease, gets beaten going for a big hit of the first ball, gets a streaky four in the next, and duly gets out to a mindless shot of the next ball

Posted by NikhilNair on (September 28, 2012, 19:23 GMT)

Why was Sehwag not included? Because he hasn't been consistently contributing with the bat in the RECENT PAST. Yes, if asked for an opinion... I would rather see Sehwag in the team instead of someone like Chawla. And also, if you at it from a logical point of view, it doesn't matter if India goes in with 4 or 5 bowlers, it's always out batsmen who has to set the game up... so better go with 4 than 5 so we can score more runs.

Posted by Rajesh_india_1990 on (September 28, 2012, 19:23 GMT)

The match was loss at the toss itself once i heard there is no sehwag in the team....this is the reason why we cannot win a single super 8 match in the previous two editions of T20wc...Dhoni tell me one spin bowler who bamboozles sehwag...

Posted by   on (September 28, 2012, 19:17 GMT)

why cant we give rahane a chance to open why the hell we have three spinners bhajji, ashwin, chawla when yuvraj and kohli are part timers they should have picked umesh yadav i thought zaheer bowled well

Posted by Rakesh.Sinha on (September 28, 2012, 18:59 GMT)

I do not understand why MSD left viru, one of devastating batsman in the team from last decade. India is not going to win world cup without the batting of sehwag. why not msd UNDERSTAND THIS. very frustating decision and now India is not going to win any match if doing such decision.wt chawla was doing 2day. Just for one over, sehwag can do 1 over its nothing related 2 rain . msd want 2 say that rain did problem for bowler, its just escaping, if u won the toss and expecter shower than why batting first.................?????????????????strange..........

Posted by Faizan_Bahadur on (September 28, 2012, 18:54 GMT)

Even if he had picked Sehwag, the way they bowled they would have struggled to defend 200.Not that Sehwag would have helped them make 200 but just a thought.

Posted by Mudaser_Iqbal on (September 28, 2012, 18:45 GMT)

when india win to England and Baji took 4 wks, Its Ooch!!!!!not for England, infects its for dhoni because he have to select Baji, infect Baji is out of form, And four wks he took that day because England do not know how to play spin:) Ooch for Dhoni:)

Posted by CCD43 on (September 28, 2012, 18:44 GMT)

An opener should play aerial shots and find gaps with the power play restrictions. Sehwag is our best batsman who can clear the infield on offside and strikes the ball hardest. Going with five bowlers is only advised if we have quality fifth bowler.

Posted by   on (September 28, 2012, 18:36 GMT)

I Think, its time for Dhoni to stop making excuses for the weather that the ball was wet.I think when Dhoni won the toss he should have taken the bowling first because we had 4 spinners in the team. One more thing by not putting Sehwag to the team that was one of the biggest mistake of Dhoni which is going to haunt him in his short captaincy to lead India. Dhoni bated like he was playing the test match,I think Dhoni,Rohit Sharma, should have been out and Mr. Sehwag should have been in.

Posted by   on (September 28, 2012, 18:34 GMT)

dhoni there is no place in the team....first u sit in the dug-out....sehwag will play.....really one of the bad decision by MSD....ok fans never fear'''' sehwag hear'''''next match play without fear''''hope we will win the match clearrrrrr

Posted by sufi_cool91 on (September 28, 2012, 18:28 GMT)

What the hell are all these people talking about..? Dropping Sehwag was the only correct decision taken in this match.Even if he would have been der,he would have scored just about 10 runs of 5 balls. No use of keeping sehwag even warming the bench just send him home & bring in sum1 who can atleast field as a substitute.

Posted by ashok16 on (September 28, 2012, 18:12 GMT)

Sehwag's recent form against quality attacks is pathetic. It was a fine decision by MSD. So rather than second guess his decision like crabs in a basket trying to pull each other down, Indian team should ignore online and commentary chatter and try to analyze why the selected team couldnt win.

Posted by mukesh_LOVE.cricket on (September 28, 2012, 18:11 GMT)

some of the comments posted here makes you think sehwags absence was the reason for india's loss , i don't think sehwag would have made much of a difference , he would have been dismissed for under 5 runs by cummins or starc ,either India should invest in another opener or sehwag has to get his act together , had enough of this 'he is a match winner on his day' nonsense

Posted by   on (September 28, 2012, 18:11 GMT)

im indian n i support watson....comeon wattoo

Posted by sredhar on (September 28, 2012, 18:08 GMT)

There is no words for dhoni on this match lose..have to given words to poor team selectors..why do we need chawla, we had many good spinners better than piyuch, bajji. wht is the reason for inclusion of balaji have better bowlers than balaji..We have best bowlers but they dont have luck to play:o)

Posted by rohit_kumar88 on (September 28, 2012, 18:03 GMT)

i think dhoni will play with all the bowlers picked for the tour by picking just two or three batsmen in playing 11

Posted by   on (September 28, 2012, 18:02 GMT)

AUS just miss ..AUS scores 93/0 at 9.3 overs ! 110/0 at 11.0 overs ... 141/1 at 14.5 overs .. it should be at 14.1 overs ... Bad batting :( :( :

Posted by sredhar on (September 28, 2012, 18:01 GMT)

The game like a practice game for India..MSD experimented with all the bowlers..may be Next match will be the same..Dont have hopes on w-cup..Well done Dhoni..Pack up packup

Posted by Pandyan on (September 28, 2012, 17:58 GMT)

If after all this experimentations still you dont understand what should be your team and how should you go on with your team then its sad that you should step down and give chances to others Dhoni who can try things to get a win. Its shame that you made these many wrong decisions on a single open with Pathan who is useful late at the innings and selecting great Piyush Chawla on the basis of one match against a team which cannot play spin at all and not opening the bowling with Pathan who is useful only with new ball, i cant understand how on earth can a person make so many bad decisions on a single day.

Posted by sredhar on (September 28, 2012, 17:56 GMT)

da game is like poor bowling vs best bowling..what ever da thought by MSD is correct..He does nt have any other options..If we scored 180 also they might have scored easily..until unless if we dont have qwality bowling this will repeat again..Next two matches should be win-win matches..awaiting for next with PAK match(Good Batting line up Vs Poor bowling)..:)

Posted by lovet20cricket on (September 28, 2012, 17:50 GMT)

how could dhoni even think of batting first with opener being PATHAN. Chawla is meant for hitting by watson. Also lack of sixes in indian innings

Posted by   on (September 28, 2012, 17:49 GMT)

I dont understand why we underestimate the bowling skills of Yuvi, Sewagh, Raina,Rohit and Tiwary especially in 20-20. They are good bowlers lot better then our frontline bowlers. Dhoni Use them dont listen to the ppl who forces u to play with 5 speciality bowlers. You have wonderful alrounders in your team except Ghambir. Use them and try to win matches for India. Best Of luck MSD and India.

Posted by   on (September 28, 2012, 17:46 GMT)

why sehwag was drop in very crusal game, who was responsible for this ????????

Posted by nishinair on (September 28, 2012, 17:45 GMT)

ya good win aussis,,bt india u hve to show ur spirit coz its not the normal game..and dhoni should keep his attitude within him..at least on game show ur courtesy...dont ever think that u itself can make a game win..it requires team work...good luck team india

Posted by Alexk400 on (September 28, 2012, 17:45 GMT)

What is strike rate of Irfan pathan and Dhoni in T20s? less than 100. Pathetic decision. Hope india loses rest of the games. Time to dump dhoni in T20 and put kohli as captain.

Posted by   on (September 28, 2012, 17:42 GMT)

MSD DOING GREAT- ME A SRILANKAN FAN, U SHD BE LUCKY TO HV A CAPTAIN LIKE DHONI..WE LIKE HIM..SHEWAG POOR FIELDING

Posted by KiranShiva on (September 28, 2012, 17:42 GMT)

What went wrong today is 1.Playing 3 spinners while Balaji had a decent last match PLUS India has more partime spin options. 2.Not opening bowling with Irfan who got early break throughs in recent matches.Definitely this will hit his confidence levels 3.Not playing Sehwag 4.Going an LBW decision against india during powerplay while watson was in 10s

Posted by Nadeem1976 on (September 28, 2012, 17:37 GMT)

Cardinal sin by dhoni. Simple. Sehwag is irreplaceable player. Good india lost it big time today now they will respect Sehwag more.

Posted by   on (September 28, 2012, 17:37 GMT)

msd is a great captain, im a srilankan fan but i would say dropping sehwag was the right thing but it didnt wk 4 dhoni..tats all..to be honest sehwag fielding nt gd & he didnt prform well..

Posted by maddysachin on (September 28, 2012, 17:36 GMT)

Stupids, wat can dhoni do here? wen he picked 7 batsmen and 4 bowlers, ppl were saying not good decision and now after skipping sehwag and entered with 5 bowlers, again blaming. He is not god to win every single match. Compared to ex captains he is doing his best. Sehwag was given much chance to show his ability which he failed though he is a gr8 hitter. bad luck will be the only word for this loss. even sehwag was out wen we played against england and scored more than 170. its time not cos of sehwag or dhoni. aussies played well tats it. ppl r only blaming dhoni cos they r jealous on him. in india, if one man grow well, they will try to point out mistakes wen he didnt perform. He will prove himself soon if not in this cup and he is the only best person to lead Indian team. wen ganguly became captain, he lost his form, sachin and dravid too. but msd was in the same level and now he is in the same level. but captaincy he is best.

Posted by   on (September 28, 2012, 17:36 GMT)

dhoni think that bowlers are main part of team but he is wrong..

Posted by   on (September 28, 2012, 17:31 GMT)

dhoni is totaly made and he is not a good captain . ...

Posted by Y2SJ on (September 28, 2012, 17:31 GMT)

Replacing an out of form with a sub par bowler - captain cool's awesome decision.

Posted by   on (September 28, 2012, 17:25 GMT)

dear dhoni just hand over gloves to some other. even uthappa can rotate strike better than u...

Posted by Y2SJ on (September 28, 2012, 17:23 GMT)

Even if Dhoni picks 10 bowlers he cant get the task done. His captaincy is being more favoritism and luck than strategy and skills.

Posted by aujender on (September 28, 2012, 17:22 GMT)

A good result for MSD. See the strike rate of MSD amazing 71. He should think of dropping himself because now even 5 bowlers are not working. I am happy with the result of the match. I have said manytimes that countdown of MSD has started since he started with rotation policy. Now 5 bowlers policy. So many policies with only one target i.e. to keep Sehwag out of playing eleven. Results of the next match against Pakistan will not be different in this situation and India will wait for MSD and his team India to come back early without a win in super eight. Well done MSD............your end is very close just like Ravan's end was very clear after SITA Haran

Posted by jimbond on (September 28, 2012, 17:22 GMT)

Irfan Pathan is a strike bowler in the first few overs, he is useless in the later overs. Everyone knows this, except Dhoni- who possibly does not want Irfan Pathan or his team to do well. And I would always go with Sehwag over Raina or Gambhir. Anyway Watson is one of those players- on the days he does well, nothing else matters.

Posted by   on (September 28, 2012, 17:22 GMT)

Bad decision cost us. our boys will come back strong :)

Posted by abshri on (September 28, 2012, 17:18 GMT)

Dropping Sehwag was a Crime... I could not even think of it in my weirdest of dream!! Forget about the runs he scores... the depression he creates in the opposition by his first shot is enough to keep them in shadows for 2-3 overs. I don't know how some sense would be infused in the Team!

Posted by Alexk400 on (September 28, 2012, 17:18 GMT)

Thank god. Hope he learned. Pathan 1 over 19 runs. 30 runs with strike rate of 100. What a stupid decision. Rohit sharma over sehwag is laughable. IDIOTIC

Posted by flexdhana on (September 28, 2012, 17:18 GMT)

Well said KALAIYARASANT, india is lowest run rate in both group now, -2.506.. it means india is out of top 4 :-)

Posted by Indfan76 on (September 28, 2012, 17:15 GMT)

Dhoni learned a lesson today for not playing shewag . he will remember this through out his life. Remember sachin stated the only batsman can make pass his 200 score is shewag. That's the way genius will analyses each player.

Posted by dexter34 on (September 28, 2012, 17:15 GMT)

Dhoni should revise his team plan once again and hands of to dhoni's brave decision Sehwag should be back to team india and we should drop rohit sharma . Why still dhoni believe in rohit he is unfit to team , he is not powerful hitter . coach and captain should think about it . DROP ROHIT and bring back our VIRU and just drop 5 bowlers and try to win the upcoming match.

Posted by   on (September 28, 2012, 17:14 GMT)

With or without Sehwag Indian team is thoroughly mediocre in all respects.Sehwag is a big lottery. No need to give him so much importance!!He doesn't mind playing a rank bad shot and throwing his wicket away without even assessing the wicket!!

Posted by   on (September 28, 2012, 17:07 GMT)

Mr.Dhoni it is better to come back to India to take rest and rest of team can play better and even Dravid will play better than you..in t20....one of the wrost decission by keeping shewag aside......

Posted by Ganchu on (September 28, 2012, 17:06 GMT)

Now people who are harping on dinda, harbhajan Rohit Zheer atleast now know that they are only fit to play in Home. There is no intrest or zeal to play for country. It is better to have people like Rahane, Uthappa, Vinay kumar and Rayadu atleast they will not surrender like this

Posted by   on (September 28, 2012, 17:02 GMT)

I hope MSD now realizes his blunder. India might still have not lost, but not with this humiliation. Even if they had lost with humiliation, MSD would have someone to blame :) Now he can blame just himself. There is a reason Shahid Afridi is still in the team, he would be blamed for every defeat as if every other player had performed.

Posted by   on (September 28, 2012, 17:02 GMT)

India pays the price due to selection blunder by Dhoni. This time the luck didn't favor to help save his face. It's time India has to find a better captain.

Posted by   on (September 28, 2012, 17:02 GMT)

During the world cup, no captian will do a test run in a dummy match where in india won with huge margin and based on that result, dropping sehwag is a idiotic decision..... Sehwag should play all the rest of the matches that india going to play in the t20 wc. The Dhoni's decision will create bad impact on all players who are all not going to perform well as such Yuvraj, Rohit and etc.....

Posted by A_Vacant_Slip on (September 28, 2012, 16:58 GMT)

He doesn't care. This not in India so Sehwag doesn't care. Also - he millionare, not bothered anyway. He get more money in IPL. He not bothered about Dhoni. Sehwag rich big man. He is not bothered. But now that India have been humiliated by Australia they all will say; if only Sehwag played India would win. This will be their excuse.

Posted by KALAIYARASANT on (September 28, 2012, 16:55 GMT)

I think 5 bowlers are not enough for MSD today he tried 8

Posted by   on (September 28, 2012, 16:55 GMT)

very very big mistake because shewag was the main hitter of indian cricket team

Posted by flexdhana on (September 28, 2012, 16:55 GMT)

The match result is much deserved by MSD..

Posted by   on (September 28, 2012, 16:51 GMT)

Huh now MSD not so lucky this time.

I am just sick of his experiments.but...dis time not so "KISMAT KA DHAN DHONI".

So dhoni next time DROP yourself AND give place for SEHWAG....

Posted by deepan vishal on (September 28, 2012, 16:50 GMT)

Dhoni! no time for experimenting.... and u india is short of resource ther..... neither pathan nor rohit has proved gud for the team....sehwag is far better than these both... no gud firing opening bowlers.... no gud death bowlers.....then Why bat first!!?? xtremely disappointing captaincy

Posted by Mikecricket on (September 28, 2012, 16:49 GMT)

Yeah Aussies you won! you can win the world cup great stuff boys!

Posted by loke_cricfan on (September 28, 2012, 16:49 GMT)

Well done Dhoni.. Did a good job by your so called smart decision.. RIP india 2012 world cup hopes over... How on world, one would drop the best strike rate batsman for the very important match. Hats of Dhoni.

Posted by suve on (September 28, 2012, 16:46 GMT)

India got the absolute Beating today. Haha more than 10 sixes hit by the Aussies. India haven't won a single super 8's game since 2007, hahaha why are these Indians teaching other teams tips when their team are worthless. Whats your excuse today indians? no Sehwag?, He would of got less runs than Pathan did.

Posted by forBetterIndiaTeam on (September 28, 2012, 16:43 GMT)

Stupid MOFO Dhoni first you drop yourself comin in death overs and consuming all balls; today you played 21 balls to get15 runs :(

Posted by   on (September 28, 2012, 16:42 GMT)

now dhoni should realize is mistake that all 3 spinners are giving more runs and could not take s single wicket till now....if sehwag would be there atleast he could contribute for bowling also.....

Posted by   on (September 28, 2012, 16:40 GMT)

ahhh india is plying with 7 bowler ..still no one is able to take wicket....if virendra sehwag is there half of ausies team under the threat of viru`s storm...but our caption cool decided to drop viru..what is worst decision taken by him ....

Posted by   on (September 28, 2012, 16:39 GMT)

best test score from indiian 1. shewag 319 2.shewag 309 3.shewag 294 ONE DAY 1.shewag 219 dhoni not want the best player of india in his teammmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

Posted by   on (September 28, 2012, 16:38 GMT)

Sehwag and Yuvi themselves can bowl spin, if MSD says he has gone in with 5 bowlers and three of them being spinners, it wouldn't be wrong to say that he could have left out chawla/singh and added sehwag to strengthen up the batting line.

foolish decision by dhoni . if he dont want out of form platers in his team then y rohit sharma keep on playing all 5 mathes in the one day series in srilank he take 9 runs from 5 matches same pitch, but he want only 4 bwolers tat time he is a politician viru is the best batsmen now india had

Posted by   on (September 28, 2012, 16:27 GMT)

Team has to pay because of 1 wrong decision by msd, T20 against australia without match winner like Sehwag in the side, if india wins then that will be a fluke.

Posted by Nallakshyam on (September 28, 2012, 16:24 GMT)

Dont know why rohit sharma getting chances again and again..He is not succeded even.Winning world cup is so important than giving chances to young stars..If dhoni want to give a chance to young stars then 1 crore young stars are ready to play cricket from india..

This is like playing Srisanth in the world cup finals and still winning the match. He might get away with that decision because the rest is very much talented. But it does n't change the fact that its the wrong one made..Shewag made I think five consecutive 50's if I can remember properly..There is no reason why he should not be given a spot in the Xi..As a srilankan I would be very happy to see an Indian side without Shewag...

very bad decision by msd....but he will realise after match ..

Ridiculous decision...dhoni has becom a politician...viru is the key player...he has taken the worst decision of his life...4 bowlers were enough..they hav part timers lik yuvi, raina, rohit, sehwag, kohli, then y do they need the 5th bowler..

Posted by   on (September 28, 2012, 15:47 GMT)

dhoni gone mad nowadays, as he don't know to play the players in the conditons, Shocked to see shewag has been dropped in super eight against australia, better to drop rohit sharma or ashwin himself.

Now Dhoni playing internal politics in indian team..i dnt like his attitude.. he is not a good captian but a luckiest one.

Posted by   on (September 28, 2012, 15:15 GMT)

Big mistake. Remember the cliche "Class before form". He has a class matched only by Tendulker. Unfortunately he is nowhere near the appreciation Tendulker has. If I were Sehwag, I would quit cricket. So I would call him, "Out of motivation" instead of "Out of form". Dhoni should learn from Hafeez who shows faith in players like Shoaib Malik and Shahid Afridi

Dhoni will regrest dropping Sehwag for Chawla. Chawla was belted for 34 runs in a single over in the IPL a couple of months back!. Sehwag as a bowler is far superior to Chawla. Dhoni has exposed the Indian batting with their star regular opener missing. Sehwag was not getting out for ducks but was contributing around 20 runs at a high S/R. Actually Gambhir with his constant poking at the balls outside the off stump has been the greatest liability & wsill be so. Irfan Pathan the make shift opener is not even a regular opening bat. It is quite likely Kohliat #3 will be in the very first over. This has exposed India to unnecessary risk by inclusion of chawla who will be hit hard by the left handers - Warner & Hussey. A poor decision by Dhoni in dropping the batsman with the highest S/R in all 3 formats of the game!.This is not a pitch for 2 off spinners + a leg spinner + Yuvraj's left arm spinners. It is similar to incl. 4 seamers in a test match vs. the Aussies in recent tour.

Posted by StatisticsRocks on (September 28, 2012, 14:17 GMT)

Right thing to drop Sehwag. He is just a burden on this team.
