Pakistan in India 2012-13 itinerary

  • December 25 - 1st T20I, Bangalore
  • December 27 - 2nd T20I, Ahmedabad
  • December 30 - 1st ODI, Chennai
  • January 3 - 2nd ODI, Kolkata
  • January 6 - 3rd ODI, Delhi

Pakistan will arrive in Bangalore for the India tour on December 22 and will play the first Twenty20 international on Christmas Day. The schedule, announced by the BCCI on Thursday, has the second T20 in Ahmedabad on December 27; Chennai will host the first ODI three days later and the two remaining one-dayers will be played in Kolkata and Delhi on January 3 and 6.

The BCCI's announcement came following the Indian home ministry's approval of the tour on Tuesday. The series is sandwiched between two legs of England's tour of India. England play the second and final T20 international in Mumbai on December 22 - the day Pakistan arrive - before heading home for Christmas. The ODI series between England and India starts on January 11, five days after Pakistan wind up their tour.

Zaka Ashraf, the PCB chairman, welcomed the announcement and said that the series was long due. "This is a great news for the people of both Pakistan and India," Ashraf told reporters at the Gaddafi Stadium. "You can't just clap with one hand. Both countries need each other and that strengthens the relationship. The series will be a big breakthrough and a revival of our cricketing relationship with India."

Pakistan will play their first bilateral series against India since touring the country in end-2007. However, they have met in multinational tournaments - their last meeting was in the 2012 World Twenty20 in Sri Lanka. Cricket ties between the two countries were snapped following the 2008 terror attacks in Mumbai by militants from Pakistan.

@wickyroypaklover (aaaa2aa): You haven't beaten India men or women for a while now nice try :) but we'll see anyway. Don't forget Pakistan were also knocked out of world t20 :')

atlast a Pakistan vs India series ...but i would have been happier if we had atleast 3 tests in there as well...it will be a gud contest between India's strong batting vs Pakistan's strong bowling...

Posted by   on (November 4, 2012, 3:08 GMT)

If Hammad Azam is not in this squad, I will be mad, We made a mistake of not putting him in for the worldcup, he needs to be in this

Posted by aaaa2aa on (November 4, 2012, 2:25 GMT)

@wickyroypaklover pak batting wil take care of indian bowling, and this smith guy was hiding with his tale between his legs since gayle and co bombarded his team in semi final now its time for afridi and co.to do the same to our dear indian

Posted by rajesh121 on (November 3, 2012, 23:17 GMT)

i am worried bout our bowling pak batsmen have done well in past on indian pitches hopefully we come out wining

Posted by kc69 on (November 3, 2012, 20:56 GMT)

all i feel is guys ODI's are India's but T20 will be a fight..some calling it for Shahid AFreebie i guess he will be the only one who will not shine in the series..way too much predictable,Although other good young Pak batsmen such as Hafeez may suceed.

@WickyRoy.paklover: lol Its good to see you on Cricinfo everytime love reading your funny comments I hope Pakistan at least takes one victory away from India so you can salvage some pride :)

Posted by EnglishCricket on (November 3, 2012, 15:13 GMT)

I just hope just for this once India thrashes Pakistan. Indian team is clever now blending in youth while the Pakistan team is old which is why they're succeeding in their final stages before they drop full time :P

Posted by Fast_Track_Bully on (November 3, 2012, 13:44 GMT)

@ WickyRoy.paklover . It is a shame to Pak team that same 'over rated' Shewag scored 300 against you in a test in your home series, isn't it? Dude, form is temporary and class is permanent. Our 'over rated' openers were the best in the world 2 years back. Do not forgot that.

Posted by kamranmalik7 on (November 3, 2012, 12:02 GMT)

England series is always an opportunity to bring out some exceptional batting talent like previously it produced the excellence of Azharuddin. under 19 captain chand should be given opportunity as opening batsman and mankad should play at no. 3. Rihane should be given chance in ODIs. I am looking forward to see atleast one Emerging batting star in this upcoming series !!

Posted by half_blood-prince on (November 3, 2012, 10:58 GMT)

we should rest dhoni, kohli, sachin, sehwag, gambhir, ashwin, yuvraj, zaheer for this pointless series and play 2nd string team so our youngsters as good performance will boost their confidence.ok??now enjoy the series pak.

@ Humayoun Ahmed Khan. Then that must have been year 2004 when Ind beat Pak in test series. Well thanks for correcting me !

@counterstrike 1.6, the last time India toured Pakistan, they lost the test series 1-0 and won the ODIs 4-1. :)

@ Rajesh - exactly my point. before replying to wickyroy I tried to search about Azhar Ali on internet and sadly couldn't find anything. Who is she ? never heard about her before.

Posted by aaaa2aa on (November 3, 2012, 2:54 GMT)

opportunity knocking on the door Mr. Afridi .....i see him troting the indian bowler's around the ball park good opportunity to get his form back

Posted by   on (November 3, 2012, 2:17 GMT)

Nothing in cricket is as entertaining to us observing from a neutral country (Nepal) than to watch an intensely competitive match between India and Pakistan.

Posted by pak78 on (November 2, 2012, 22:30 GMT)

what would have been good pk to play 5 t20s with india and then england to return back for there second leg of the tour and not play 5 odis but have a tri series between pakistan india and england.

Posted by Naren420 on (November 2, 2012, 17:29 GMT)

I don't understand the logic behind scheduling of the venues and itinerary. They start the first T20 in Bangalore (South India) and then travel to Ahmedabad (Northwest India and pretty close to Pakistan), then travel back all the way to Chennai (Southeast India and a handshake distance from Bangalore), then travel to Kolkata (East) and Delhi (North). The ideal route would be Bangalore, Chennai, Kolkata, Delhi, Ahmedabad and then go home to Pakistan. Anyway, it doesn't matter as I am not traveling.

Time to abandon test cricket. Test format belongs to 1800s. In the fast paced world playing a 5-day match that produces no result is a big waste of everybody's time. I would rather see five T20s in those 5 days. IPL accomodates 10 matches in that much time.

@g.narisma,@counterstrike1.6,i know U r saying it 4 the sake of it.STEYN,Morkel R not that great against pak bt R handful against india,2ndly UR BOWLRS R NT GD ENUF TO DISLODGE Azhar ali twice in a test match forget misbah,younis.3rdly at least our openers have prformd beter than ur ovr.ratd flat track lovers like S n G.(article z very much visible on our very own cricinfo)

Posted by Stark62 on (November 2, 2012, 10:05 GMT)

The ODI series should be clean swept by Ind because Misbah will be Ind's 12th man on the pitch but the T20's is a 50/50 call and I wouldn't be surprised if the T20 series ended in a draw.

Posted by g.narsimha on (November 2, 2012, 9:30 GMT)

ALI SHAH PAK 86 -JUST ARROGANCE after reading these type of coments i wonder whether we have done a mistak by allowing u r team to play in IND as no body is interested to engage u see during this period ENG-IND, - SA-AUS- SL- NZ , EVEN BD- WI but no body playing u r team , whether we have 10 wicket taking bowlers or not i sure u dont have batsman to put at least a three digit score out side UAE ,

@imsrk,U MESSED UP THE WHOLE ISSUE.I MENTIOND 2000 JST BCOZ MANY OF INDIAN FANS TEND TO GLOAT TOO MUCH ovr post 2000 era n think Ind z all ovr pak.NO DOUBT IND WON THE RECENT 3 MATCHS BT ONE MUST ALSO TAKE DIS INTO CONSIDRATION THAT MATCHS BTWEN PAK N IND R FEW N FAR BTWEN N NOT PLAYED WITH REGULARITY,THE NO. Of matchs In a calendar Year R lower even than what bangla gets to play in test format.ARGUEBLY PITCHES WOULD B MOSTLY FLAT N ROADLIKE,N HENCE It would b closely contested odi series while pak would b favorite in t20s.

Posted by arvind.Kejriwal.AAP_A_Better_INDIA_ on (November 2, 2012, 8:57 GMT)

@Ali_Shah_Pak_86 - Let me remind you once again last time Ind toured Pak we beat your team in your own backyard 2-1. Yes, The same series in which Sehwag ended careers of the likes of Saqlin and Shabbir. And about our Wicket-Taking bowlers..Well yeah ! We might not have some of the Best fast Bowlers like Steyn, Morkel, Bollinger, Malinga, Finn etc. but to get Pak batsmen we don't need them either.

To all pak fans: PCB got this from BCCI as a help. So, PCB decided for ODIs and T20s which is financially beneficial for them. They wanna pay the players at least.

Posted by Ali_Shah_Pak_86 on (November 2, 2012, 6:25 GMT)

Why not test matches.... Seems like India dont have wicket taking test bowlers.... they have good hitters like sehwag and yuvraj and a better batsman like kohli but is Balajee and company enough to take wickets in test matches.... I dont think so... Come on India atleast home ground and crowd situation is the best option to test your abilities love to watch test match between pakistan and India after all they are playing odd T20 and ODI here and there in a bilateral series Test Match is crucial... after all cricketers still believe that the real cricket is test cricket....

This is really bad news for Sri Lanka Cricket. They have to reduce the number of pointless India - SL mathces from 24 per year to merely 19 per year now due to this twist that has added unexpected congestion to the cricket calendar.

Posted by   on (November 2, 2012, 0:56 GMT)

@Heartbreakerz : In India tickets are sold out only 7-10 days before the match.

Excited about the chennai match. Though I am not in the city anymore, but it just reminds me of saeed anwar's 194 and the standing ovation the crowd gave to Pak after the match.

Posted by crick_wizard on (November 1, 2012, 23:30 GMT)

I don't understand the concept of international t20s...playing just 1 or 2 matches is ridiculous and no one would take it seriously..if they are so keen on playing t20s they should do away with Odis and play 5 t20s, which will at least make it more competitive..

Posted by kc69 on (November 1, 2012, 22:15 GMT)

Guys i really dont get the confusion you all are having, last ODI between India and Pak was Asia Cup but in India was during the world cup whereas last T20 was few days back in Sri Lanka and i hope all three results gives the preview for the series.Saeed Ajmal is a player to be watched out for(If India can play him seried whitewash for Pakistan is imminent).

@wickyroypaklover. As per your theory teams like AuS or WI have upper hand over most of the teams due to past records that doesnt mean they will beat any team today. Moreover if india used to be Pak bunny then currently Pak is India' s bunny. Pls remind me when Pak beat India last time. I think even u don't remember

Posted by   on (November 1, 2012, 18:04 GMT)

I think Pakistan t20 squad vs India should be 1.Hafeez 2. Ahmed Shehzad 3.Jamshed 4. Asad Shafiq/Umar Akmal 5.Misbah-Ul-Haq(C) (he adds solidity and calmness to the team during tense moments) 6.Kamran Akmal (wk) 7.Afridi 8.Razzaq 9.Raza Hasan/ Junaid Khan 10. Umar Gul/ Wahab Riaz 11. Saeed Ajmal. This Creates a perfect balance of pace and spin, and a perfect balance of youth and experiance! ODI Pakistan Squad: 1. Jamshed 2. Azhar Ali 3. Asad Shafiq 4. Younis Khan (c) 5. Umar Akmal 6. Fawad Alam 7. Kamran Akmal (wk) 8. Afridi 9. Raza Hasan/ Tanvir 10.Umar Gul/ Junaid Khan 11. Ajmal. I think that Hafeez and Misbah should focus and play only t20 and tests so they can make room for Fawad Alam, and Azhar Ali!

India as a team was pak's buny befor 2000,howevr,india got slightly more competitive aftr 2000 than what they were pre 2000,hence matches now R more Competitive n no more one sided afair most of times may b due to the fact that Pak r yet To introduce young pacers in place of oldies like gul,bt i have no doubt in my mind that results would tilt again in pak's favor when junaid,talha,zia.ul.haq,wahab would be regular part of playing 11 4 pak.ANY WAY PAK Z STIL VRY COMPETITIVE AGAINST IND IN LAST 12 YEARS,contrary to pak's domination ovr ind pre 2000 era.Especialy Pak Z great in india, pak have chased scores in exces of 300 in india with utmost ease, obviously evrybdy knows the calibre of indian bowling.lolz

Posted by Omarrz on (November 1, 2012, 16:33 GMT)

This tour is an example of yet another display of domination of BCCI over world cricket. "Hey, I don't want to tour your country and I don't like to play in UAE (your second home) so come to my backyard so that I can get full support of my crowd, home advantage and all the money. And hey just FYI, we are best when we play at home."

BTW, Pakistan is best when they play in India, FEI.

This is good news for sub-continental cricket ! By having more such bi-lateral or tri-lateral matches, the teams will be better able to match and beat the other top cricket teams and show that sub-continental teams are really the best in the world.

I am BANGLA fans & feeling sad PCB sending team to India not Bangladesh. This was Indian team turns to visit PAK, it really shame for PCB as they downed in front of BCCI, and re-sending team for India tour. They should reconsider our request and send team to face powerful BANGLA Tigers.

A meaningless series. Why schedule a short ODI tour in the middle of a test season ? The BCCI is killing Indian cricket. We could have accommodated the Pakistanis sometime early next year after the Australian series. Or, we could have played them in the UAE where the crowd support will be more consistent. While Pakistan are talented, can't see them beating India, especially in ODIs. India are far talented and skilled. Pakistan's bowling however is superb. So it will be Indian batting vs. Pakistan bowling.

This series should not have been organised in the first place in India. It would have been better if they at least played in neutral venues. No Pakistani team must be allowed in India until the 26/11 culprits are brought to justice.

I really dont understand..BCCI is hell bent on givng absolutely no breaks to players bodies..look at the schedule..its already jam packed...and whatever little time was given by christmas, board has utilized it to sandwich another series..I dont think timing of this series is right frm any angle...agreed it is a good sign of pak in india, but i guess...its askin for too much from indian players who will be tired after gruelling test series...and dont forget we hv high class australians arriving soon in feb...by that time i dont see indian players will be dead tired n pullling themselves along for another gruelling 4 test 5 odi tour...well done BCCI for just focusing on filling in the coffers..

Posted by tanstell87 on (November 1, 2012, 13:50 GMT)

BCCI should arrange more India-Pakistan series rather than India-Sri Lanka...great oppurtunity for India to get past Pakistan & better that record...Pakistan is a weak team now compared to what it was back in the 80s & 90s....India will win 2-0 in T20s & 3-0 in ODIs & will be crowned number 1 team in both the formats.

probably the best decision not to play in Mumbai with all those rowdies of MNS and Shiv Sena ...who spoil the spirit of Game.. well done BCCI :) Sad for Mumbai cricket Lovers who wont be able to watch live matches ..

India should select a good team for both t20 series - england & pakistan

Posted by   on (November 1, 2012, 13:32 GMT)

just have to make a correction in this article.....that attack was not my Pakistan Millitants. It was by the Indians!!!!! A waste of series anyways!!!!

Posted by CricketMaan on (November 1, 2012, 13:28 GMT)

A nice oppurtunity to field a new T20 team (even if seniors return later). Kholi (c), Vijay, Dhawan, Chand, Raina, Yuvi, Tiwary, Rohit, I Pathan, DK/Bisla, Ashwin, Abdulla, Umesh, Awana, Dinda..but i know and we know it will be the same old Viru, GG, Kholi, Raina, Yuvi, Rohit, MSD, I Pathan, Ashwin, Zak, Balaji..

Posted by   on (November 1, 2012, 13:25 GMT)

This series is utterly shameful.

Posted by CricketMaan on (November 1, 2012, 13:23 GMT)

Looks like BCCI wants Modi on his side, to have Pak in Ahmedabad is a wonderful PR for Modi as well. it will work, anyways finally a meaniful bilateral series. The debate whether the ties should resume will go on.

Posted by me.teamindia on (November 1, 2012, 13:22 GMT)

India and Pakistan have last met in ICC World T20 2012 , not in 2011 CWC... plzz make note of the correction..

Posted by Ronsars on (November 1, 2012, 13:21 GMT)

Could not they have prepared an itinerary in this way Chennai,Bengaluru,Ahmedabad,Delhi and Kolkata to minimise travel time.....Excited for this series!!!!

Posted by   on (November 1, 2012, 13:16 GMT)

why a T20 and 3 ODI's? Why not just four ODI's? The T20 world cup has just finished and hence this T20 ODI will be meaningless.

Posted by AMAZINGFAN on (November 1, 2012, 13:12 GMT)

EVERYONE KNOWS WHAT WILL BE THE RESULT OF THE SERIES.....PAK CAN NEVER BEAT IND......WITH OVER-RATED BOWLERS AND CLUB-LEVEL BATSMEN THEY CAN NEVER BEAT IND.....IND WILL WHITEWASH PAK IN BOTH ODI AND T20 SERIES....

Posted by WickyRoy.paklover on (November 1, 2012, 13:06 GMT)

My only concern is that matches should be decided on the playing field rather than some where else.If this z going to hapen, pak should continue its domination against india in india

Posted by   on (November 1, 2012, 12:57 GMT)

Very Good for us as a cricket Fan across both countries..its a Treat to watch the talent of India and Pakistan..I am a grt Fan of Pakistan Bowling and Indian batting..Terrorism should stop from Pak area and Terrorist must leave beautiful Pakistan so that ppl can live freely and can enjoy life..Feeling sad for families of Martyrs(Shaheed) of both the countries.Terrorism should stop so tha we can play and live together.

Posted by PrasPunter on (November 1, 2012, 12:54 GMT)

@ alikhan224 , yes , things would have been agreed that way even before a ball is bowled. Quite obvious !!

Posted by   on (November 1, 2012, 12:53 GMT)

hope India destroy pakitan dis time as well!!!

Posted by masoodali150 on (November 1, 2012, 12:52 GMT)

Very quick response from India to schedule this series but there must be at least 2 tests.

Posted by   on (November 1, 2012, 12:43 GMT)

Correction: India and Pakistan last met in the Asia Cup in Bangladesh this year.

Posted by   on (November 1, 2012, 12:42 GMT)

No ODI's in MUMBAIIII :'(

Posted by   on (November 1, 2012, 12:41 GMT)

If pakistan can come to India, perhaps India can brave a trip to the UAE to play pak at dubai, abu dhabi and yes sharjah since you guys think you can hammer us...

Posted by jagatr on (November 1, 2012, 12:41 GMT)

Totally agree @Narmeen Khan - only, I wish this was a 5 test series :)

T20-1-1,ODI-3-0 win for India!

Toothless Home ministry can do only this much, put the issue to cool down and do the same blunder again....

Posted by   on (November 1, 2012, 12:34 GMT)

Virat kohli odi man of the series. I can bet for any amount

Posted by Chets007 on (November 1, 2012, 12:32 GMT)

I believe India and Pakistan have a played against each other in the Asia Cup too, so the statement - "their last meeting was in Mohali for the 2011 World Cup semi-final". seems to be wrong.

Going to be an interesting series as Pakistan has improved and also India is always good when it comes to ODIs specially in India.

Very good news ... after all the fans of cricket will enjoy ind vs pak matches....we heartly welcomes our pak brothers .... i guess t20 resluts will be 1-1 and odi resluts will be 2-1.

Posted by PakFan1209 on (November 1, 2012, 12:29 GMT)

im a pakistani but i think pak will lose the odis and i dont know about the t20s but best of luck to pakistan

Posted by   on (November 1, 2012, 12:24 GMT)

India has a much better team than Pakistan. Plus its happening in India which also goes in their favor. I think they will win both the series comfortably.

Posted by vj3478 on (November 1, 2012, 12:23 GMT)

2 shameless governments/boards!

Posted by Narbavi on (November 1, 2012, 12:20 GMT)

the team first plays 4 test matches in a span of 30days, then after a couple of days they play 4 t20's and 8 odi's in a span of 35 days!! hmm, that's a cause for concern, injuries might happen, too much of a workload, i see only Virat playing all these games, nobody else!!

Posted by mixxing_15 on (November 1, 2012, 12:20 GMT)

Their last meeting was on September 30, 2012, during the World Twenty20.

Posted by ramab on (November 1, 2012, 12:15 GMT)

Poor Scheduling. Why can't they schedule the 1st T20 in Ahm'bad and the 2nd at B'lore followed by the 1st ODI in Chennai and then Kolkatta and Delhi. This would have been easier for travel for both sides. Strange ways of BCCI...

This will be Sparkling series for both contries. And it is vey difficult for pakistan to handle indian crowed. Team Battle is India= 70% & Pakistan=30% Best of luck for both the teams...

Great News I hope for the peaceful series...

it will be become a good tournament.

Posted by   on (November 1, 2012, 11:54 GMT)

Finally the snow has melted, Nice to here this, though I would have prefered a full tour of 3 test, 5 odo and 2 T20. But for the start it's already enough

Posted by   on (November 1, 2012, 11:51 GMT)

we are waiting for this moment...
