Shoaib Akhtar showed signs of returning to full form and fitness before a crucial tour to the West Indies, taking 5 for 23 in a Twenty20 match for Rawalpindi Rams. Shoaib nailed five of the top six batsmen as Quetta Bears were bowled out for 101 chasing 198 for victory.
Shoaib had missed the tour of India due to a hamstring injury, but his performance in the game significantly improves his chances of being named in the squad to the West Indies, which will be named on May 2. If he does make the cut, it will greatly boost a bowling attack which might be without Mohammad Sami. Sami underwent a heel surgery on April 25 and has been advised to rest for three weeks.
Pakistan will arrive in the West Indies on May 8 and will play two practice games before playing three one-day internationals and two Tests. The tour ends on June 7.
