Zimbabwe to tour Scotland in June

After hosting Afghanistan for five ODIs in February, Zimbabwe have now plugged their gap in the international calendar by negotiating a tour of Scotland for two ODIs this summer. Before the Afghanistan ODIs, Zimbabwe were looking at a six-month hiatus.

This will be the first bilateral series between Zimbabwe and Scotland. Their only meeting so far was at the World T20 in India in 2016, when Zimbabwe won by 11 runs. The two matches in this series will be played at the Grange in Edinburgh on June 15 and 17.

"Securing home international matches against a Full Member nation is something we have all worked tirelessly on over the past 18 months so I am delighted we have managed to make these matches a reality," Cricket Scotland CEO Malcolm Cannon said. "The squad will relish the opportunity to put in some winning performances in front of a passionate home crowd."

Zimbabwe are also slated to visit Sri Lanka in June. With only the hosts and the top seven sides earning a direct entry to the 2019 World Cup, these matches will give Zimbabwe, currently ranked eleventh, a chance to gain significant game time ahead of the World Cup qualifiers set to be held in March-April next year.

Surely they could have squeezed a little more out of the trip than 2 ODI's. Seems a waste of time and money NOT to take advantage of the tour, and perhaps play a 5 match series, one or two T20's...even a 4/5 dayer.

Hopefully Zimbabwe can go back to Pakistan for a couple games just to help both Countries Pakistan get more International Cricket while Zimbabwe more games win for both countries

It is very good steps taken by both boards. It would be better if they played 3 match series. Hope no rain effect these two matches.

It always helps cricket to develop when countries with local people like Scotland, papunew Guinea,Namiba,Nepal plays more

Good to see Zimbabwe are playing something rather than nothing. Heath streak and Taibu are filling the gap in FTP. Hope they will secure more matches. On the other hand Scotland is trying to be busy and that's the way to go. Two one day matches vs SL in May, I-Cup & WCL championship matches vs namibia in june and now these two matches vs Zimbabwe and more fixtures down the year as WCL set to be finished. Good for the cricket.

Great to see fixtures like this being organized for teams like Scotland and Zim who are both deprived of cricket. I only wish that for all the hassle of a tour they'd make it more than a two match ODI series, these teams need as much cricket as possible so when the chance is provided they should be made the most of it. A 3 or 5 match series with a t20 thrown in would be much more appealing and be much better in terms if developing players etc. @TRICKKDADDY Are you joking? Scotland players in particular have begging for more cricket, do you actually think this series is of no benefit?? Against a full member no less, albeit Zimbabwe, is extremely welcome regardless of your opinion on standard. In fact I'd love if they tipped across the water and played Ireland in an ODI or two while they're at it, I'd know we'd welcome it anyway!

Should have gone for 3 Match ODI series or a Tri Series including PNG or HK

Good to see Scotland get a few matches. Wish this was a 5 match ODI series, would have been competitive and could have got more Scottish interested in cricket seeing their team play or even win matches
