  • It was the 26th match between the two sides. The record now reads : India 19,Zimbabwe 5,tied 2.
  • It was the 116th match in the year 1999 - second most no. of matches played in a year.115 matches were played in 1997. However the record of most matches in a year is 127 in 1996.
  • Both Darrel Hair and Rudi Koertzen were officiating in their 53rd match.
  • Andy Whittall was playing his 50th match.He became ninth Zimbabwean and 207th player in the world to do so.
  • India's run-rate (8.16) is the third highest by a side in an innings after India's 8.80 (132-1 in 15 overs against Bangladesh at Colombo SSC on 24 July 1997) and WestIndies' 8.33 (111 for 2 in 13.2 overs against Australia at Sydney on 18 January 1989).
  • It is,however,the highest in a more than 30 over game.The previous best was SriLanka's 7.96 (398 for 5 in 50 overs against Kenya at Kandy on 06 March 1996).
  • Sachin Tendulkar made a fifty plus score for the 67th time in his career (including 23 hundreds).He thus equalled SriLanka's Aravinda DeSilva's tally of 67 (11+56) fifty plus scores.Now only Desmond Haynes,with 74 (17+57) fifty plus scores,is ahead of Tendulkar.
  • Ajay Jadeja became fourth Indian to hit six sixes in an innings after Sachin Tendulkar (twice),Kapil Dev and Saurav Ganguly.
  • The third wicket partnership of 143 runs between Tendulkar and Jadeja is India's best for this wicket against Zimbabwe.This obliterates the unbroken 104 runs partnership between Vinod Kambli and Ajay Sharma at Pune on 25 March 1993.
  • It was the ninth century partnership between this pair (Tendulkar and Jadeja).Now only Gordon Greenidge and Desmond Haynes (15) and Sachin Tendulkar and Saurav Ganguly (10) have been involved in more century stands than this pair (Desmond Haynes and Richie Richardson also have been involved together in nine century stands.
  • Indian batsmen hit as many as 11 sixes in the inningsa new Indian record.On two previous occasions nine sixes were hit by Indian batsmen in an innings (v Zimbabwe, Sharjah,13 Nov 1998 and v SriLanka,Taunton,26 May 1999).
  • Neil Johnson,by taking two catches in the match,equalled the existing Zimbabwean record of most catches by a fielder in a match against India.It was tenth such instance for Zimbabwe against India.
  • Alistair Campbell,on 17,completed 2000 runs in his role as Zimbabwe's captain.He was playing his 70th match and 68th innings.Campbell became first Zimbabwean and ninth player to do so.
  • With his two wickets in the match,Anil Kumble became the leading wicket taker against Zimbabwe.He has now a tally of 30 wickets from 18 matches against Zimbabwe.He was previously at level with fellow countryman Javagal Srinath who has 28 wickets from 16 matches on his name.Interestingly India's Sachin Tendulkar holds the record of scoring most runs against Zimbabwe- 864 in 21 matches.
  • By conceding 20 runs in his only over,Grant Flower now holds the dubious distinction of conceding most runs in one over spell for Zimbabwe.Alistair Campbell had given away 14 runs in his only over against SriLanka at Colombo SSC on 26 January 1998.
  • Craig Evans' figures (5-0-50-1) are the second most expensive by a Zimbabwean in a five over spell.The record,however, is held by Guy Whittall (5-0-52-1,v Australia,Delhi, 11 Apr 1998).
  • Sachin Tendulkar won MoM award for the 34th time in his career.
