News : Sri Lanka series chance to assess team - Dhoni
Players/Officials:
MS Dhoni
Series/Tournaments:
India tour of Sri Lanka

MS Dhoni has said his team is geared up for the limited-overs tour of Sri Lanka, which marks the start of a hectic season following a seven-week break. India play five ODIs and a T20 international in Sri Lanka from Saturday before hosting New Zealand, playing the World T20 and then hosting England and Pakistan at the end of the year.
"Most of the players have come back after a long break and the body looks very different and their fielding and other activities look very different," Dhoni told reporters in Chennai before his team's departure to Sri Lanka. "We will make the most of the rests that we have got. It's the start of the season and we want to start it on a good note."
Sri Lanka and India are familiar rivals, having met in as many as seven ODI competitions, bilateral and multi-team, since the start of 2010. "Sri Lanka is not a new place for us. We have played at least one series there each year, even twice in a year. Conditions are also not very different from India and acclimatising to conditions will not be difficult," Dhoni said. "This Sri Lanka series is good for us. We have to come back in Sri Lanka again for the Twenty20 World Cup. It will help us."
Dhoni admitted that the team sought overall improvement after being beaten comprehensively in England and Australia, and said there was much time spent on lifting the standard of fielding. He also said dealing with a hectic schedule was part of the job for players today. "It's a hectic schedule but as professionals we have to maintain our standard. We will play in different venues and there will also be some travel.
"Next year, there is bit of a gap between each series. That is a good sign for us. This is the longest break that we have got during the last five years and it is not possible to get such breaks often.
"The first break we got, after I started playing for the country in 2004, was in 2007. Breaks in between are necessary and a bit of break between the seasons will do a world of good."
The first ODI will take place in Hambantota on July 21.

@Bruisers check your world map please. Sangakkara definitely has 7 test centuries scored in Non Asian countries other than Zimbabwe. He is not a flat track bully. That was why he has tons in Hobart, Southampton and Durban."
Firstly, you really need to learn to count correctly. KS has 30 Test 100s in all. Of these, he has scored 18 in SL, 1 in India, 3 in Pak, 2 in UAE and 1 in Zim. This makes a total of 18+1+3+2+1=25 out of 30 in Asia or vs Zim. Now that we are done with basic maths lessons, I want to ask you why are you so much troubled over whether KS has 5 away 100s or 6 or 7? By your own (wrong) count, KS has scored only 7 100s away from Asia and not against Zim. That still means he scored a min of 23 100s either in Asia or against Zim. This clearly shows how much of a FLAT TRACK BULLY Sangakkara is. Also note that I would not have used this FTB logic had the SL fans not used this logic against Indian Players.
Posted by Bruisers on (July 20, 2012, 22:10 GMT)@Sinhaya - No mate. He has only FIVE. He has scored one hundred in Aus, one in SA, two in NZ, one in Eng and none in WI.. Also please stop comparing your SL batsmen to Sachin as Sachin has scored tons of runs everywhere, six hundreds in Australia alone.
Posted by Harmony111 on (July 20, 2012, 21:50 GMT)@Sinhaya: (contd.) Now the 2nd flaw. I knew you were going to raise some past performance of a SL player to counter Kohli's 100. Please tell me if at any point anywhere have I said anything against Jayasuriya or Murali or Vaas for their performances against India? I guess not. In any case, how is SJ's 150 against India a thrashing but Kohli's 100 against SL in a chase of 321 runs in 37 overs NOT a thrashing? I have merely asked about the opinion of the SL fans for that match and esp Kohli's knock. No where have I said nor asked about the opinion about any other performance of any Indian or SL player. Please answer. Do you agree that Kohli played a great knock to help India get a fab win over SL? Or do you find it difficult to acknowledge this? Is it so difficult? What do you think of India's win over SL in the prev Asia Cup in SL and in the WC Final in Mumbai? Are these title wins good for nothing?
Posted by Harmony111 on (July 20, 2012, 21:43 GMT)@Sinhaya: Again a flawed argument in both cases. You don't claim victory in sport by using the "Proxy" logic. And please don't try to beef up your argument by adding irrelevant data to your case. In the league matches SL had beaten Oz 3 times and not 4. The 4th was in the 2nd final and by that time India was already out so it is not applicable. Now, even these 3 league wins vs OZ would have meant nothing had India won 3-0 against Oz. In that case Oz would have been out and not India. Conclusion of this is that it was Oz that ensured that India don't get to the finals cos they won more. SL can't claim that they had kicked India out. Forget kicking India out, they did not even have the better of India, they were 1-2 down the CB Series and should have been 1-3 down but for that atrocious maths of the umpires in India's 30th over in that chase. If your "Proxy" logic was any good then SA could claim to be ODI WC Winners as they had beaten India in the league and then India had beaten SL. Ha
Posted by Harmony111 on (July 20, 2012, 21:30 GMT)@Sinhaya: And show me when have I said that SL can't overtake India? It was mentioned by someone that India could become #1 in ODIs if they were to win 4-1. That is a valid statement. You seem to have a problem with even theoretical statements. I never said that SL can't overtake. I had only said that India have already been ranked #1 in ODIs in the past and could do that again in the future. I really fail to see anything appreciable in most of your comments except that they appreciably bitter towards India. Why are so bitter bro? I thought Dilmah was a good tea. Sip some of it and relax. Enjoy tomorrow's ODI match and esp the Day 3 of Eng vs SA. I would be hard pressed to decide what to watch.
Posted by Sinhaya on (July 20, 2012, 21:16 GMT)@Harmony111, it is always correct to say Sri Lanka got their first test win faster than India. Your argument is wrong. Sri Lanka hardly got any tests in the early 80s. We even beat India in the 1979 world cup when we were not an official test playing country. Was n't that a thrashing? Fact is took too late to give us test status when we deserved it a long time before. 1932 versus 1982 argument is correct as it proves Sri Lanka has done far better than India in spite of the lesser chances we got.
Posted by Sinhaya on (July 20, 2012, 21:08 GMT)@Harmony111, of course Sri Lanka kicked India out of the CB series. Sri Lanka was excellent enough to beat Australia 4 times in ODIs in their soil. Yeah wont you call Sanath Jayasuriya blitzing the Indian bowlers apart in Mumbai in 1997 when he scored 152 not out as a thrashing? Sanath Jayasuriya has given plenty of nightmares for the Indians.
Posted by Sinhaya on (July 20, 2012, 21:04 GMT)@Harmony111, Sri Lanka can easily overtake India in the rankings. Sri Lanka has been ranked ahead of India in ODIs before and we can be no.1 by all means.
Posted by Harmony111 on (July 20, 2012, 20:59 GMT)Another question for all SL fans. MJ scored a 100 in WC Final vs India and SL lost. TD and KS scored 100s in CB Series vs India and SL lost. 2 Pakistani openers scored 100s in Asia Cup vs India and Pak lost. TD scored 160 vs India some years back and SL lost then too. Given that Sachin has been called selfish since India has lost a few times inspite of Sachin's 100s (even when he has scored 175 while chasing 350) does this not mean that MJ, TD, KS and Hafeez and Azhar Ali are selfish players too? Please note that I AM NOT CALLING THEM SELFISH. I am merely asking if your SACHIN-IS-SELFISH argument extendable to these players or is the argument not applicable on these few?
Posted by Sinhaya on (July 20, 2012, 20:59 GMT)@Bruisers check your world map please. Sangakkara definitely has 7 test centuries scored in Non Asian countries other than Zimbabwe. He is not a flat track bully. That was why he has tons in Hobart, Southampton and Durban.
