Rambukwella in prelim squad for New Zealand series

ESPNcricinfo staff

Allrounder Ramith Rambukwella has been named in Sri Lanka's 24-man preliminary squad for the New Zealand limited-overs tour in November, after having had a good match for Sri Lanka A last week. Opener Upul Tharanga, who had been in the Sri Lanka side for their last one-day assignment, has been left out, as has middle-order batsman Jehan Mubarak.

Opener Dimuth Karunaratne, who has been a Test specialist in internationals so far, finds a place in the squad and other additions include allrounders Chaturanga de Silva and Milinda Siriwardene, and batsman Ashan Priyanjan. Seam bowler Isuru Udana, who last played for Sri Lanka in July 2012, is also in the squad.

The three ODIs, which begin on November 8, will be followed by two Twenty20s. The final squads will be selected closer to the series' start.

*Tillakaratne Dilshan was added to the squad list after he had been mistakenly omitted

I was surprise ,Upul Taranga was not in the Sri Lanka's 24-man preliminary squad , Considering the fact that he is one of the Best Opening Batman SL ever produced , look at the carrier of him 16 ODI hundred and don't Forget Best Opening Stand with TM Dishan in last World Cup, Yes, there are some Failures as well as Success in the carrier of a Cricketer, are that the Failures make him out of this series, NO ,Selectors did this yet again bcoz they need somebody include in the squad instead of that caliber of player like UPUL Thranga. these thing happen again & again sometime this might coursed him to Say Good Buy to his Wonderful Cricket Carrier

I'm not too concerned about the omission of Tharanga. His technique is quite problematic as he has minimum footwork. This has resulted in him being one of the most inconsistent players in the Sri Lankan team. Until he corrects his technique I dont think he should be in the side. I am a bit surprised about Rambukwella's inclusion, no doubt his father/politics has had some say in this. It's a shame Kaushal Silva has been overlooked as his domestic scores definitely warrant him a place in the squad - far more than Rambukwella.

Munaweera is the Best Batsman Inter- Provincial League Tournament 2010 .But he is not include for this . why you dont give him a place ,It is very unfair to him. He has done well in Dhaka Premier in Bangaladesh.and also what happened to Akila Dananjaya?

God! Please save Rambukwella from dreaming in the Air Planes. We need to him to lead our Sri Lankan team in near future!

Where are maharoof and kapugedara? They are both very good, and sl could certainly use their experience at the international level. Both are currently in decent form

it's very sad to see Tharanga out of ODI squad.but mahela who gone lot of failures r still in ODI the squad. in other hand sanga who play T2O like test matches consuming lot of dot balls in the squad but real T20 players like Kapu,Maharoof not there. then we can understand SJ favaourability on seniors like mahela and sanga. SJ wan to play them until 40-45 like he did earlier. even those 2 included in canceled Zimbabwe tour. most SL youngsters and Talented Experience cricketers will migrate another country if SJ's selection committee exists.then future SL team become Kenya or Namebia.very sorry situation.

Here comes SJ...He is having the habit of deciding the carrear of the players..This is the end of Upul tharanga,CHAMARA Kapugedara,MAHOOF , pRASANNA Jayawardane, Tharanga Paranawithana..........Youngsters like Munaweera, T.Kaushal,Bhanuka Rajapakse and roshen silva may say ggod bye to cricket in near future.....Rambukwella may be a future sri lankan captaicy material ...Lol....

Forget about Rambukwella, I think it's a very good decision to drop Upul Tharanga. He has not been improving his technique as an opener and with 2 new balls he really struggles at the top. He doesn't posses much foot work against spinners and has limited strokes against them and also unable to rotate the strike to become a successful middle order batsmen. I strongly believe Mahela should bat at the top and Kusal Perera is definitely our future opening batsman
