Muttiah Muralitharan has been rested from the Sri Lankan side for the first two one-dayers of the upcoming five-match series against West Indies. Rangana Herath, who has impressed in the Test matches, has taken Murali's place for the games that will be held at the new stadium in Hambantota.

Dinesh Chandimal and Dammika Prasad, who were a part of the squad for the successful one-day series in Australia, were left out of the side. Thilan Samaraweera took the batting spot vacated by Chandimal, while Ajantha Mendis was included as an extra spinner.

The last three games will be played at the newly renovated R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo which, along with Hambantota and Pallekele, will host matches in the 2011 World Cup.

Srilanka need Samaraweera for sure in the middle order. You don't need everybody going there and play very aggressively from the start. You need a player like Thilan to stabilize the middle order. He has a very good Cricketing sence when it comes to playing under pressure. If you drop him it will be a mistake.

I checked the records of Sachitra Senanayake. It is excellent. Cant understand why he is not selected for any of the international matches ( tests/ ODI /T20).

Kapu should be given another chance to mature. Kapu and Angelo are the same age. If Angelo was taken into SL team when he was 18 ( like Kapu ) he would have been super cricket by now with a excellent record. Angelo like Sanga came into the team when he was 21. Think of Sanga playing from 18 like Mahela, he would had 3 more years of SL cricket and may be many more hundreds and closer to Sachin on records.. Past SL selectors ignored Mathews who was a outstanding cricketer than even Arjuna Ranatunge. If not for Hathurusinghe he would have been lost for SL cricket. We all hope Kapu who is talented will shine as well.... these youngsters with Malinga, Ajanatha, Randiv, Dinesh, Thisara and others could be the backbone of SL cricket to come.

The best team to lift the wold cup 2011, the perfect blend, but when there are players like Dilshan, Mahela, great Sanga, Murali, Mathews, Lasith, no team can be cop up with these greats. The Emerald Island team possess the great all rounder than any other team. So it is the best team for the great event and it will do lift the WORLD CUP 2011.

I seriously hope we sub continent teams can thrash overrated england team and their spinner swan will be exposed against the asian teams.

please dont tell to take chamara Silva, he can't play a long innings , also he can't hit hard,he is good only for the domestic matches

i think 01.Mahela and 02.Dilshan should open the batting, since 1st over hould be attacking like we did in 96 world cup, 03. Thisara Perera should Bat like Do or Die Batman 04. sangakkara 05. Chandimal 06. Mathews 07.Kapugedara 08. Kulasekara 09. Randiv 10. Malinga 11. Murali

Bench sitters Upul tharanga,Samaraweera,Mendis,Chaminda Vaas,Rangana Herath

Chandimal should be given a spot ahead of Samaraweera, the latter is a good player( and a family friend tbh) but SL cricket needs to blood its future players and Chandimal must be a part of our cricket in the future...Picking Samaraweera is going back in time...

Useless series srilanka had been played ever , I don't know how they rating, just because of the stupid rain washed out the test series srilanka rates reduced 9 points from 118 to 109 suddently,No 2 position to no 5 now, it's not fair, India wins series 0-1 with New Zealand but their rate reduced only 1 point, Again 5 oneday series vs. westindia if srilanka win all the 5ODI srilanka will get only 1 point , if srilanka loose 1 match and win 4 matches eventhuogh reducing 2 point,

I don't know why srilankan cricket broad deside to play with these weak team, while we nearing to world cup, all other team now playing with compatible team with good pitches, srilanka only playing with this westindians now. We should criticize this ICC Rank system,
