Umpires Doug Cowie and Dave Orchard were officiating in their 61st and 71st match respectively.

Jayasuriya (70) when on 8 completed his 3000 runs in floodlit matches. He became first batsman from Sri Lanka and only the third batsman in ODI history after Australia's Mark Waugh (4200 runs in 117 matches) and India's Sachin Tendulkar (3601 runs in 87 matches) to do so.

The catch of Jayasuriya was 26th for Inzamam-ul-Haq in floodlit matches. With this he became the most successful Pakistan fielder in floodlit matches surpassing Ijaz Ahmed's tally of 25 catches from 52 matches.

Mahela Jayawerdene (67) on 51 completed his 1000 runs in floodlit matches becoming seventh Sri Lankan after Jayasuriya (3062),Aravinda de Silva (2469), Marvan Atapattu (1865), Arjuna Ranatunga (1595), Romesh Kaluwitharana (1354) and Roshan Mahanama (1201) and 49th batsman overall to do so.

Jayasuriya has now aggregated 594 runs in 16 floodlit matches against Pakistanmaximum by any batsman in this form of cricket. He surpassed India's Saurav Ganguly's run-aggregate of 538 from 13 matches.

Jayasuriya has now aggregated 894 runs in the final/grand final of a tournamentmaximum for Sri Lanka. The previous record was on the name of Aravinda de Silva who has a tally of 852 runs 21 appearances. The ODI record is held by India's Sachin Tendulkar with 1291 runs from 26 matches.The following table has the details :

The wicket of Indika de Saram was 250th for Saqlain Mushatq. He became third Pakistani and seventh bowler after fellow countrymen Wasim Akram (440), Waqar Younis (331), India's Anil Kumble (274), Javagal Srinath (261) and Kapil Dev (253) and Australian Shane Warne (252) to reach this milestone.

Saqlain, by taking 138 matches to accomplish this feat, became the quickest to complete 250 ODI wickets. The previous record was on the name of fellow teammate and captain Waqar Younis who took his 250th wicket in his 148th match. Incidentally Saqlain also holds the world records of reaching the progressive milestones of 100 ,150 and 200 wickets in least matches, that is 53, 78 and 104 matches respectively.

Sri Lanka's total (297-7) was the second highest by any side in the final of a tournament at Sharjah.. Sri Lanka had made 299 for five in the final of Champions Trophy on 29-10-2000 which remains the highest. However Sri Lanka's total was the highest by any side in a final at Sharjah against Pakistan beating West Indies' 285 for four on 05-11-1993 in Champions Trophy final.

Romesh Kaluwitharana, who dropped Imran Nazir off the first ball of Pakistan innings, later made amends by catching him off Zoysa. With this he equalled West Indian Jeff Dujon's record of most dismissals by a wicket-keeper against Pakistan. This was Kaluwitharana's 46th dismissal against Pakistan in his 37th match. His tally includes 28 catches and 18 stumpings. Dujon's had taken 42 catches and effected 4 stumpings in a career of 43 matches.

The wicket of Saeed Anwar was 200th for Jayasuriya in his 235th match. He became second Sri Lankan after Muttiah Muralitharan (241) and 14th bowler overall to do so. Jayasuriya,however, is the slowest to reach this landmark. West Indian Courtney Walsh with 180 matches was the previous slowest.With this Jayasuriya also achieved a unique distinction. No other player has aggregated more than 6000 runs and taken 200 wickets in shorter version of the game.

The two wickets in the match has taken Muttiah Muralitharan's tally of wickets in the final/grand final of a tournament to 32 from 18 appearances. Only Pakistan's Wasim Akram (44), Australia's Shane Warne (34) and Glenn McGrath (33) are ahead of Muralitharan. The details :

The defeat brought an end to Pakistan's unbeaten streak of 7 consecutive matches at Sharjah which began on 26-03-2000 with the match against India.

The victory margin of 77 runs was fourth best for Sri Lanka in the final of a tournament. The best still remains the 245 run-margin against India also at Sharjah in the final of Champions Trophy on 29-10-2000.

It was Sri Lanka's 12th tournament win (involving three or more teams) since its maiden title way back in April 1986 with the second Asia Cup.Sri Lanka's last tournament victory had come in October last year when it won the Champions Trophy at Sharjah.

The win was Sri Lanka's fourth title win at Sharjah. With this it has now come at level with West Indies which has also won four titles here. Now only Pakistan (12) and India (6) have won more titles at Sharjah than Sri Lanka.

Marvan Atapattu was winning his tenth Man of the Match award.He became fourth Sri Lankan after Aravinda de Silva (26), Sanath Jayasuriya (25) and Arjuna Ranatunga (24) to win 10 or more awards in a career.
