  • It was Pakistan's 458th match.The record now reads : won 235,lost 207, tied 6 and abandoned 10.
  • It was the 23rd match between these two sides .The record now reads: South Africa 16, Pakistan 7.
  • It was the third match between these two sides on this ground. South Africa has won all the three.
  • Umpire Peter Manuel and Daryl Harper were officiating in their 28th and 20th match respectively.
  • The partnership of 115 runs between Imran Nazir and Younis Khan was Pakistan's best for second wicket against South Africa. This supplanted the previous record stand of 62 between Aamir Sohail and Rameez Raja, also at Sharjah on 16-04-1996.
  • Imran Nazir was playing his first match against South Africa. His innings (71) was the highest by a Pakistani on first appearance against South Africa. The previous highest was Salim Elahi's 54 at Nairobi Gymkhana on 29- 09-1996.
  • Lance Klusener captured five wickets in a match for the sixth time in his career. Now only Pakistan's Waqar Younis has taken five wicket hauls on more occasions than Klusener nine in 184 matches.
  • Klusener's figures (5-47) are the second best by any bowler against Pakistan on this ground after SriLanka's Rumesh Ratnayake (5-32 on 20-12-1990). WestIndian Curtly Ambrose (5-53 on 21-10-1991) is the only other bowler to capture five wickets in a match against Pakistan at Sharjah. Incidentally the previous best for South Africa at this venue was 3-19 by Craig Matthews, also against Pakistan on 16-04-1996.
  • It was the second time Klusener captured five wickets in a match against Pakistan. He had taken five for 25 at Cape Town on 23-04-1998. He became only third bowler after WestIndian Ian Bishop and Australian Glenn McGrath to capture five wicket hauls on two occasions against Pakistan.
  • Klusener has now taken 18 wickets in just seven matches against Pakistan most for South Africa. Previously Fanie deVilliers had a tally of 18 wickets from 15 matches.
  • Jacques Kallis,on 14,completed his 3000 runs in ODIs in his 90th match (87th innings). He became fifth South African after Hansie Cronje, Gary Kirsten, Jonty Rhodes and Daryll Cullinan and 61st batsman overall to do so. Kallis also became second fastest to complete 3000 runs for South Africa after Gary Kirsten who took 72 matches (and as many innings) for his 3000 runs.
  • Pakistan has now not won a match against South Africa in last 14 matches. Pakistan's last win over South Africa came at Durban on 17- 12-1994.
  • The defeat was Pakistan's seventh in a row. Only twice before Pakistan has lost 7 or more consecutive matches.It had lost 10 matches at a trot from 30-10-1987 to 30-03-1988.It also lost 7 consecutive matches from 14-01-1984 to 04-02-1984.
  • Lance Klusener won Man of the Match award for the 16th time in his career. Now he is only two short of Hansie Cronje's record tally of MoM awards for South Africa.
