  • South Africa's win was only their second in Pakistan, and more importantly it came in Karachi, where Pakistan had lost once in 39 Tests held previously.
  • Mark Boucher became the most successful wicketkeeper in Test cricket, breaking Ian Healy's record of 395 dismissals on the third day (October 3). It was exactly one day short of nine years after Healy pouched the record from compatriot Rodney Marsh on October 4, 1998.
  • Abdur Rehman picked up 8 for 210, the fifth-best analysis for a left-arm spinner on debut. It's also the best for a Pakistan spinner on debut. Only three fast bowlers - Mohammad Zahid, Mohammad Asif and Shabbir Ahmed - have done better for Pakistan in their maiden outing.
  • Paul Harris took his first five-for in Tests during Pakistan's first innings, and averages 20.46 for his 13 wickets in four Tests he's played against them.
  • Dale Steyn's 5 for 56 was the final nail in Pakistan's coffin. He seems to relish subcontinent conditions - one of his two other five-fors came in Sri Lanka.
  • Younis Khan's 126 is his fourth century in a losing cause. He has seven hundreds in wins and two in drawn matches.
  • Makhaya Ntini poor form continued into this Test as well, bagging only one wicket. Ntini's bowling average in away Tests is 38.52, and marginally above 40 in the subcontinent. With Shaun Pollock averaging 22.55 in Pakistan, it will be interesting to see if Ntini keeps his place for the next Test.
  • Jacques Kallis, the Man of the Match, became the fourth South African player to score a hundred in each innings of a Test. Kallis now has 26, and is the only player with over 25 centuries not to have scored a double-hundred.
