Conway Young scored the first century of the tournament as Belize romped to a 117 run victory over Suriname. Young and his partner, Winston Flowers got Belize off to a great start with a 71 run first wicket partnership.
He carefully crafted his innings while his partners attacked the bowling and frustrated the Surinamese bowling attack. He shared with Clarence Anthony (58) an impressive third wicket partnership of 128 runs. Young was born in Belize and is a product of the local development system. Andrew Banner chipped in a quick 27 not out as Belize innings closed at the formable total of 289 for 4.
The Suriname batsmen never got on top of the run rate but the high order reached a respectable score of 121/4 with Deoraj Sewanan (47) and Brahma Prasad (31) leading the way. The middle order batsmen after a long hot day in the field found the task of almost six runs per over too difficult to overcome and in the 47th over Belize achieved victory by 117 runs. Edison Parks lead the Belize bowlers with a fine spell of 10-1-19-4. But it was the teenager Conway Young that stole the show and was awarded the Man of the Match.
