Afro-Asia Cup, 2005

At Durban, August 20, 2005 (day/night). Asian Cricket Council XI won by 17 runs. Toss: Asian Cricket Council XI.
Shahid Afridi hit his first ball for six to set the tone and, although he was lbw to the second, Sangakkara and Jayawardene made contrasting half-centuries - the first dashing, the second hardworking - to take the Asian XI to an above-par total on a balmy winter's day. Those two and the free-scoring Sehwag fell to the Kenyan Odoyo's finely controlled outswingers before Shoaib again terrorised the top order, although his figures did not reflect his impact. Overall, the Asian attack, marshalled by Muralitharan while Inzamam nursed a sore leg, combined impressively as a bowling unit - but three special moments in the field turned the match decisively, as first Razzaq, then Sangakkara and Murali claimed successive wickets with pinpoint run-outs, the last of them ending a promising stand between Kemp and Kenya's captain Steve Tikolo, who top-scored with a runa- ball 43.
Man of the Match: K. C. Sangakkara.
