The Queensland fast bowlers Alister McDermott and Luke Feldman will make their first-class debuts against the touring West Indians this week. The two have been named in Queensland's starting line-up for the four-day match that begins at Brisbane's Allan Border Field on Wednesday.
McDermott has been impressive in the shorter formats since making his initial Twenty20 appearance in January this year. At 18 years and 164 days, McDermott will be 75 days younger than his famous father Craig McDemott when he made his first-class debut in a Sheffield Shield match in 1983-84.
Feldman, 25, is a former Queensland Country and Australian Country player and has been performing well in grade cricket this season having relocated from Charters Towers, in rural Queensland, in his job as a police officer. The batsman Nathan Reardon has been included for his second first-class game while the fast men Ben Cutting and Scott Walter have been rested due to their heavy workload so far this season.
The match will also feature a fascinating face-off between the Bulls fast bowler Nathan Rimmington and the West Indies batsman Brendan Nash. The two men are former flatmates, having shared a house in Brisbane along with Mitchell Johnson when Nash was a Queensland player.
