At Port Elizabeth, October 23, 2011 (day/night). South Africa won by 80 runs. Toss: South Africa.
South Africa seemed stung into action by their flat performance at Centurion, and squared the series with an emphatic display. They did not blink when Amla was dismissed by the first ball of the match, popping a leading edge back to Bollinger. Instead, Smith and Kallis calmly picked up the pieces in a partnership that swelled to 142. More jut-jawed batting by Duminy and Miller took South Africa towards 300; Duminy exacted revenge on Cummins, his vanquisher in all their meetings thus far, with towering sixes struck into the sightscreen and on to the roof. For the first time in his international career, Cummins was having to stomach a bit of tap. Australia were thrown off kilter when Watson - who missed the previous two matches with a hip injury - pulled up with a back spasm during his fourth over. It affected their batting blueprint, with Watson lasting only ten balls when he came in at No. 6 instead of opening. Morkel slammed the door shut with three top-order wickets.
Man of the Match: M. Morkel.
