Australia v India 1999-2000

At Sydney, January 14 (day/night)

15-Apr-2001
At Sydney, January 14 (day/night). Australia won by five wickets. Toss: India.
The crowd may have missed out on a full evening's entertainment, but they went home happy with Australia's ruthless demolition of the Indian batting. Tendulkar elected to bat first and also chose to promote himself to open with Ganguly. That was all the spur McGrath needed: the Indian captain became his first victim in an unforgiving ten-over master-class that produced four wickets for eight runs. India's demoralisation was completed by the medium-pace of Symonds, who twice took two wickets in two balls in his three and a half overs. Without substantial help from Extras, the total would not have reached 100. Srinath then reduced the Australians to 59 for five, highlighting Mark Waugh's continuing poor form, but the target meant there was little other cause for concern.
Man of the Match: A. Symonds. Attendance: 38,831.
