†AUSTRALIA v WEST INDIES 1983-84

At Sydney, February 8 (day/night)

15-Apr-1985
At Sydney, February 8 (day/night). West Indies won by nine wickets. West Indies were decisive winners of a disappointing match. The Australians, who were to leave for a five-Test tour of the Caribbean eight days later, were embroiled in protracted contractual discussions with the Australian Cricket Board which undermined their play. When play began threequarters of an hour late, reducing the match to 46 overs a side, Smith played a lone hand for 50 in 110 minutes, in humidity and cloud which allowed Holding, Garner and Marshall to dominate. Lawson struck 22 from 25 balls, but Australia's 160 left West Indies with the simplest of tasks. Richardson, who had been troubled with a hamstring strain, had some anxious moments, but he survived to produce the most entertaining batting of the game.
