Australia v West Indies, 2012-13

Wisden's review of the fifth ODI, Australia vs West Indies, 2012-13

15-Apr-2014
At Melbourne, February 10, 2013 (day/night). Australia won by 17 runs. Toss: West Indies.
Opportunities had been scarce for Adam Voges in the six years since he first played for Australia, but now he took his chance, ensuring a whitewash with a maiden international hundred. Now aged 33, Voges had written off his own chances, but a hamstring injury to George Bailey had opened the door unexpectedly in the previous game at Sydney. There, he made only 28; now, he cashed in with an unbeaten 112 from 106 deliveries. Best had claimed Watson first ball and Finch with his tenth, but West Indies again failed to pull the trigger, allowing Voges to add 111 for the fifth wicket with Haddin, then an unbroken 81 with the increasingly impressive Faulkner in the last 8.3 overs to tip the game Australia's way. Fate appeared to be with Charles, who was only seven years old when West Indies last beat Australia in a one-day international there, in 1996-97. He was dropped twice, and escaped two marginal reviews to bring up his first hundred in any form of elite cricket. But Pollard's dismissal, when 41 were needed from four overs, proved decisive.
Man of the Match: A. C. Voges. Man of the Series: M. A. Starc.
