Ben Laughlin, the Queensland fast bowler, is in line for his one-day debut after being named in the squad for the Bulls' first two FR Cup matches of the season. Queensland started their Sheffield Shield campaign with a victory and they now convert to the 50-over format for games against Tasmania at the Gabba on Wednesday and New South Wales in Cairns on Saturday.
Laughlin, 26, played his sole first-class match for Queensland last season. He has been joined in the one-day group by three other men who did not feature in the Sheffield Shield win over Tasmania: Lee Carseldine, Clinton Perren and Nathan Reardon.
The veteran batsman Perren needs 46 runs to move past Matthew Hayden into second on Queensland's all-time one-day list behind Jimmy Maher. Carseldine is set to continue his strong comeback that began last summer when he played his first state games in nearly four years following a serious back injury.
Reardon, the allrounder, will enter the match in form after striking 132 off 61 balls in a recent Twenty20 practice match against the Kolkata Knight Riders. Queensland finished fourth on the FR Cup table last season after winning the competition the summer before. Tasmania, the reigning champions, have named a 12-man squad for the Gabba clash and a game against Western Australia on October 24.
Queensland squad James Hopes, Greg Moller, Clinton Perren, Andrew Symonds, Nathan Reardon, Lee Carseldine, Chris Simpson (capt), Chris Hartley (wk), Ashley Noffke, Ryan Harris, Chris Swan, Ben Laughlin.
