Commonwealth Bank Series, 2011-12

Wisden's review of the ninth match, Australia v Sri Lanka, Commonwealth Bank Series, 2011-12

15-Apr-2013
At Hobart, February 24, 2012 (day/night). Sri Lanka won by three wickets. Sri Lanka 4pts. Toss: Australia.
A maiden century by Forrest, his first in List A cricket and the first by anyone in the series, went unrewarded as Sri Lanka clinically exploited the slightest complacency. While Forrest justified his surprise selection - before moving to Queensland in 2011, he had been a fringe player for New South Wales - he and Clarke should have scored more briskly than under five an over when they spent more than 30 together; Australia were again grateful for David Hussey's late gloss. Sri Lanka catapulted to 68 for one after ten overs, with Lee and Harris punished for some off-key bowling. Doherty was typically economical but atypically dangerous: his sharp turn removed the excellent Jayawardene, who faced only 81 deliveries. Three late wickets in 26 balls gave Australia a chance, with Sri Lanka needing 14 from nine after Mathews holed out. But Christian's lack of composure was seized upon by Perera, who hit him for four and six off the next two balls to make the last over a breeze.
Man of the Match: D. P. M. D. Jayawardene.
Attendance: 9,158.
