After a five-hour delay for rain, this 23-over-a-side game proved gratifyingly watchable, not least for the sight of Cook leading England home. Surplus to Twenty20 requirements, he had considered leaving himself out for a more attacking batsman, but struck the second six of his one-day international career - a mow over midwicket off Ashwin - and showed off an unlikely reverse sweep in a resourceful 63-ball innings. Kieswetter had set up the chase with three sixes in 25 deliveries, and Bell and Bopara matched the rate to make light of the absence of Morgan, ruled out of the series with a shoulder injury. Dhoni was not helped in his bid for wickets by an attack containing only four specialist bowlers; Cook, by contrast, was able to employ a battery of four frontline seamers, plus Swann, who checked India's apparently ominous advance to 109 for one with three wickets, including the stylish Rahane. Though Raina inflicted late damage with 40 from 19 balls, Bell capped a good all-round fielding effort with a superbly judged catch at long-on to remove Tiwary. It was England's first one-day win against India for four years.
