ENGLAND v NEW ZEALAND

At Perth, December 7 (day/night)

15-Apr-1992
At Perth, December 7 (day/night). England won by four wickets. Toss: New Zealand. Stewart and Small restored order to a collapsing innings to bring a win initially fashioned by the bowlers. The ball moved both in daylight and under the floodlights, and there was some uneven bounce: Smith had his right forefinger broken by a ball from Lewis during the New Zealand innings, Greatbatch taking his place behind the stumps when England batted. With luck running for Morris and Larkins, who struck nine fours, England looked to be cruising to victory, but from the seventeenth over they lost six wickets for the addition of 57 runs. As New Zealand's one chance lay in bowling England out, Crowe stayed on the offensive, supporting his seam bowlers with two slips and sometimes a silly point, but Stewart and Small kept their heads and nerve. England's two newcomers, Bicknell and Tufnell, were both impressive, especially the Middlesex left-armer, who bowled slowly and with guile.
Man of the Match: A. J. Stewart.
