England v Pakistan

At Sharjah, April 7 (day/night)

15-Apr-2000
At Sharjah, April 7 (day/night). Pakistan won by 90 runs. Toss: Pakistan.
Pakistan steam-rollered England, who looked oddly, underprepared despite a week-long training camp in Lahore beforehand. A partnership of 145 in 22 overs between Ijaz Ahmed and Inzamam-ul-Haq enabled Pakistan to amass 323, the highest total conceded by England in a one-day international. Ijaz hit 137 in 130 balls, his tenth century at this level. Later, England had their first frightening sight of Shoaib Akhtar. Rated by his captain as the fastest bowler in the world, Shoaib struck three times in his opening burst to decide the match. England's best moments came in a beefy interlude from Flintoff, who struck four sixes in a run-a-ball 50 on his one-day debut.
Man of the Match: Ijaz Ahmed.
