ENGLAND v PAKISTAN 1982

At Manchester, July 19

15-Apr-1983
At Manchester, July 19. England won by 73 runs. England's second victory, which assured them of the Prudential Trophy, was no less convincing than their first. Batting first this time, after Pakistan had put them in, they reached 295 for eight, the second largest total recorded in these matches. Gatting and Botham set it up with a violent partnership of 84 in eleven overs, Botham's 49, scored off only 29 balls, containing four 6s, all off the slow left-arm spin of Iqbal Qasim. Needing to score at 5.38 runs an over to win, Pakistan found the risks that this involved too great, only Wasim Raja and Imran Khan, in a stand of 60, causing England any concern. Gatting was Man of the Match. For England the Man of the Series was Lamb, for Pakistan, Mudassar.
The attendance was 21,770.
