England v Zimbabwe

At Leeds, July 1

15-Apr-2004
At Leeds, July 1. No result. England 3 pts, Zimbabwe 3 pts. Toss: Zimbabwe. One-day international debut: Kabir Ali.
Both captains expressed their frustration with the competition rules after rain ruined a match that had already been reduced to the bare minimum of 25 overs a side by the weather. Play finally got under way at 3.50 p.m., but after less than 17 overs it rained again and, under ICC regulations, this meant the game had to be abandoned. This was especially unfortunate for Kabir Ali: handed his debut, he never took the field. In the play that was possible, England collapsed to 32 for four in typically testing Headingley conditions, before two local favourites, Vaughan and McGrath, gave the home crowd a little solace with an unbroken stand of 49.
Attendance: 7,593; receipts £170,947.
