England v Zimbabwe 1999-2000

At Cape Town, January 28 (day/night)

15-Apr-2001
At Cape Town, January 28 (day/night). Zimbabwe won by 104 runs. Toss: Zimbabwe.
Olonga's six for 19, the best figures by a Zimbabwean in limited-overs internationals and the best by any bowler on African soil, guaranteed that England would be beaten for the sixth time in their eight one-day meetings with Zimbabwe. He claimed their top five for 18 in his first eight-over spell. It took England's last-wicket pair, Read and Caddick, to guide them past their lowest one-day total: 93 against Australia at Leeds in their 1975 World Cup semi-final. Several batsmen brought about their own downfall with rash strokes. Zimbabwe's innings was dominated by Johnson, who stayed until the 46th over. From the start, he took the fight to the English attack, especially Gough, and missed his hundred by three when Hick held a steepling catch on the mid-wicket boundary.
Man of the Match: H. K. Olonga. Attendance: 8,612.
