When Graeme Hick takes to the field in Worcestershire's Twenty20 Cup match against Somerset at New Road, he will set a record for the most games played in senior cricket.
It will be Hick's 1196th match - taking into account all county, representative and international appearances - and that takes him past Graham Gooch's career aggregate.
"It's not really that meaningful to me, apart from the fact that I have had a long ride and a very enjoyable one," Hick told the BBC. "If nobody had mentioned it, I wouldn't have even realised as it's not the sort of milestone you go out to set. I'd rather just get it out of the way so that people stop asking the question."
Asked for his most special memory, Hick, in his 24th season at Worcestershire, said: "I think maybe my hundred against the West Indies, which brought up my thousand runs, in May in 1988, was my personal favourite. But there have been some important knocks along the way that have been quite influential in the results of games and they are always the ones that you enjoy the most."
Although he is 42. Hick's appetite for the game remains undiminished and he is only 1386 runs shy of 65,000 in his career, and 13 catches short of 1000.
