After scoring his third hundred in four Tests, Brian Lara is hoping to continue his magnificent form for the entire season. Lara, who stands fourth in the list of Test centurions, has a stunning average of 81.57 in his last seven innings.
"Let's hope it continues," Lara was quoted by The Trinidad Express. "We've got one more Test match against Pakistan, a couple against Sri Lanka and Australia at the end of the year, so I am hoping that it continues. One of the banes in my cricket is the inconsistency in my batting and I hope that it can carry on throughout the year.
"Of my three hundreds this season, maybe Trinidad [196] was fine, but I think in Barbados, 176 [third Test against South Africa] and 130 were not sufficient for what the team really required. So I try to play my normal innings and get the runs that are necessary."
Speaking about Pakistan's main bowler on this tour, Danish Kaneria, who also dismissed Lara during his knock of 130, Lara said, "He [Kaneria] is a very good legspinner and for a legspinner you have to cater for four, five runs an over. They are attacking bowlers and he picked up three wickets. He is someone who Pakistan has relied on in the past. He has done the job for them. In the West Indies we understand that he is their trump card and I am sure he is going to get accustomed to the conditions."
However, Lara never allowed Kaneria to dominate, as he smashed him for two consecutive sixes to reach his hundred. "It's important to state your intentions very early."
