The New Zealand squad has been changed for the last two one-dayers against Australia, with the injured Michael Papps and the out-of-form Daryl Tuffey replaced by Craig Cumming and Lance Hamilton, who has yet to play an international game.
Papps retired hurt after being struck on the head by a Brett Lee delivery in the third one-dayer and did not return to the crease. Tuffey too had an abbreviated stint in the same game: his opening over took 14 balls to complete and included four wides, four no-balls and two hits to the fence. His two-over spell gifted 25 runs before he was taken out of the attack. His series figures stand at one wicket for 185 runs and an economy-rate of 8.05.
Cumming made his one-day debut on the tour to Pakistan in 2003. After 10 average games, he was left out of the side. With Andre Adams unfit and Tuffey out of the side, the chances of Hamilton making his debut at the age of 31 are high. In 49 first-class games, Hamilton has claimed 182 wickets at an average of 25.12, and in 53 one-dayers, 63 at 28.26.
Squad Stephen Fleming (capt), Nathan Astle, Craig Cumming, Hamish Marshall, James Marshall, Craig McMillan, Chris Cairns, Brendon McCullum (wk) Daniel Vettori, Kyle Mills, Jeff Wilson, Lance Hamilton.
