New Zealand v Australia 1989-90

At Christchurch, march 4

15-Apr-1991
At Christchurch, march 4. Australia won by 150 runs. Toss: Australia. New Zealand suffered their largest defeat by runs in a one-day international after their last eight wickets fell for 15 runs in 55 balls. A crowd approaching 20,000 saw Jones and Boon put on 145 in 119 minutes for Australia's second wicket, a stand marked by the power of their strokes and by their swift, instinctive running between the wickets. Boon took 72 balls to reach 50; Jones was at that mark from 87 balls, but needed only 53 more to complete his century. Between them they hit thirteen of the fourteen fours in the Australian innings. New Zealand in reply were 79 for two in the seventeenth over. But O'Donnell, mostly with in-swingers, captured five wickets for 5 runs from his last 28 balls and Campbell claimed three, for just 1 run, from his last eleven. Crowe learned of his promotion to captain within half an hour of the start when Wright reluctantly pulled out because of influenza.
