†NEW ZEALAND v INDIA 1980-81

At Hamilton, February 15

15-Apr-1982
At Hamilton, February 15. New Zealand won by 57 runs. The margin would have been wider had New Zealand not dropped four chances, three of them in the first four overs. The pitch was green and damp and assisted bowlers right through the match. If, in spite of it, New Zealand, who were put in, made as many as 210, it was because only Kapil Dev and Patil bowled with any degree of accuracy. Man of the Match Coney, top scorer with 46, and Hadlee propped up the New Zealand innings when it seemed to be sagging at 92 for five, and Robertson, Troup and Snedden between them raised 44 runs from the last five overs. This torrent of late runs drowned India, who, despite a second-wicket partnership of 48 between Chauhan and Vengsarkar, were never in a challenging position.
