This was a dull, uninteresting spectacle mainly due to the safety-first methods of the Pakistan batsmen who on the first day allowed 71 maiden overs to be bowled while they made 161 for eight wickets from a total of 127 overs.
The lunch interval of the third day had arrived before Pakistan claimed a lead of 8 runs. From that time the cricket improved with Abdul, Hanif and Ilyas doing well against Cameron who finished with nine wickets for 70 runs.
New Zealand needed 240 to win in three hours, forty minutes. They received a splendid start from Dowling and Congdon but after tea Pervez caused a shock by taking four wickets in ten deliveries without cost before Yuile sealed the breach.
